computer problem -
02-28-2005, 10:02 PM
warning this is a paragraph...or two
alright, i know just basics when it comes to comps, so bear with me, well i originally hada vpr matrix with p4 512 mem and a shit video card, so i go and buy a geforce 6800 vid card and have it installed, it ran nicely, then i planned on getting a gig of dual channel put into my computer but my old board wouldnt support it, so i go and buy a new mboard and a gig of dual channelram.
Well when they opened it, they said my old p4 wouldnt fit on new m board and that i needed a higher powersupply for my new vid card, so iwent bought a new p4 775 for the m board and a 500 w powersupply (over kill i know) well takes them about a week to set it up and they tell me that the old m board that i had in there was specifically designed for the vpr matrix case and thus the new m board would not wrk in the old vpr matrix case something due to there being only certain slots for the power connections and such( dont knowexact details)
So i was like what the hell i had planned on buying anew case anyways so i buy a new case, takes another 4 days to come in, so when it finally does i was really happy, well i take it to em, and in a day they haveit all pretty much screwed in.
Well here comes the wiring, takes them about a week to do it, and while im waiting they scratched part ofthe case, lost a screw to front panel, and kicked in the air filter screen, which everything listed i fixed xcept for the scratch, nothin i could do about that, so even tho that had happened i was still being patient.
Well its been almost another week and they tell me there is something they keep missing when wiring it( which was the dep mgr who had been wrking on it all this time) so i tell the other tech to go ahead and have him wire it since the mgr is a fuckin idiot, well the tech wired it i believe and i came in, saw it all done looking, and so i plug it in to test it, what do u know, it still doesnt wrk again, same problem that the mgr seemed tohave, it turns on but beeps then stops, then beeps then stops over and over again.
So by now ive waited roughly two weeks and its stillnot wrking, im pretty fedup with it and agrivated that they have had it this long and its stillnot wrking and the case is continously getting dmged or lost pieces, what should i do? tell em to fuck off and take it somewhere else, or give them another fuckin week to figure itout, i mean, if something is wrong with one of the parts by the time they figure it out the return policy on these things will be up and im screwed. But I also work at this place soi cant really cuss out the guys or cause a scene, so I need some advice.

RAM could be bad or in the wrong slots, board could be cooked. Floppy cable could be backwards. oOo:
Figrure out what BIOS you have and check the mobo manual, those beeps are a code that will give you a clue as to whats wrong.
Who's doing this work btw? Sound like complete fuckwits... if you're doing this professionally, you can build a PC in a few hours. If its a really complex set up, like a server with multiple RAID arrays, it might take a day or so. Not a month or more. Tell these wangs to shove off, especially if they're charging you a ton of $.

Man, that sucks that you work there. I'd still go talk to the store general manager and explain to them how bad the situation is and how they've pretty much ruined your computer and wasted your time and money.
The store manager may be willing to compensate you with reimbursement, free parts or write off the labor. I know you don't want to cause problems, but maybe the store manager can do this quietly for you.
If nothing else, your store manager should know about the apparent incompetency of whichever department handles comptuer repairs. I mean, if I were a customer and I took my computer there and they did that to it, I would not only never come back, I'd probably avoid the chain as a whole, tell all my friends and make sure to fill out one of those surveys that ends up with the district manager tearing the store manager two new assholes.
