What Fluffy is talking about was the theory that if one country fell to communism that others around it would as well. If Vietnam fell, then Cambodia and Laos would too and eventually all of southeast Asia. However, the domino effect can be used to describe the spread of democracy as well, but that is not its exclusive use.

The Containment strategy that you are talking about was a policy created to stop the Soviet Union's expansion of influence through spreading communism to non-communist countries.

So essentially you are both correct.

And if ninty9 doesn't use something to back up his post, one of you would demand that he proves it. So if he includes something to backup his view in the post, that would save time. Not everyone just takes someones word for something, and since he is pretty much the only one that has a view contrary to what most of the people post here, he would have to defend himself more often.

It is true...if people want a certain government they should get it...regardless if it isn't democratic...

That is oddly enough the basic idea behind democracy, The people choice to rule, or appoint leaders.

What, you must have containment and domino theory mixed up. Vietnam was completely different. It was the US helping free people protect themselves from spread communism. Containment.
People really dont understand Vietnam, and always try to compare EVERY war to Vietnam-the same people who call others ignorant becuase of supporting a war, alot of times, are the same people who just listen to one side as well.

Domino is helping people to OVERTHROW dictators, and establish a new gvt.

And back to my original point- its not important to use quotes to back up statements--anyone can find any quote to back up what they believe. People will just take your word for it (at least I would) unless its unbelievable.[/quote:28cf4]

nein, the domino theory here is whether the rest of South East Asia would follow Vietnam on the road to communism, - the assumption that; if one country fell to communism the rest would follow.
