if we allowed anyone who wanted to, to just walk into the country take a couple of classes and get a legal citizenship that would entitle them to low paying jobs. There are only so many positions available for work. Yes people retire every year, some quit etc. but they are replaced by college grads, people being promoted, and other kids who would like some money to pay for say their college education. Now imagine if a million immigrants showed up at our border over a period of a few days. can you imagine the chaos that would cause? All those teenagers who want a job wont be able to because single mexican moms will have rights that say they cant be denied a job. The lower income jobs will be flooded with people willing to work for minimum wage.
Now we also run into the problem of how do we deal with a million people showing up at once? We would have to feed them, house them, police them, teach them. That would take up a ton of resources. When people group together that like disease is often a common occurance. We cant vacinate that many people in a few days, we just simply dont have the supplies or man power. There would be mass amounts of death and disease and there would be unrest.
There would also be an economic problem. Imagine if thousands of people per day just walked out of mexico. Their economy would crash. No workers means no goods being produced, no goods being produced means no exports, no exports means no money, no money is very bad for a country. Mexico would then have its military block the border to stop people from leaving. This might cause a fight to break out between the people and the troops. A fight over something like this could turn into a civil war. The US Army cant just walk into mexico and help out in a war without some serious consequences.
Now that is just mexico. If we opened our borders we would also be taking people from Cuba, pacific islands, haiti, guam, china, all those places where there are problems. We just simply cant do that. We need to have our borders closed pretty tight. Sure people should have an oppertunity to life and all that but they should honestly try and find it wehre they are first. As is I dont see how our imigration policy is bad.
