Default question about bidding on ebay - 04-13-2005, 07:57 AM

ok, Ive found a shitload of good deals on ipod minis now when I go to bid on something.. it already says Ive been outbid on the item, and im sure that means the user had made a 'maximum bid' of some kind, now what I want to know is, is there a way to see what the maximum bid is so I dont keep bidding .50 cents more each time like an idiot?

also. if I make a max bid of say $150, and no one bids any higher, if I win the item, does that mean I have to pay $150? or just .50 cents higher than the bidder that's under me?

there is no way to see a maximum bid, that would defeat the fun of proxy bidding... you will never be charged for you maximum(proxy) bid unless it is like you said, the next highest bid... so if you were bidding on something with a proxy of $100, and the auction ends and the highest bid is $80, you would pay that...

on a side note, e-bay roulette is a fun game, essentially see how high you can force someones proxy to go , without you being the winner, it can be expensive, but fun!...

Or you can wait until the last second "camping" the item at the end of auction. That way your not forcing the cost to go up by people trying to outbid your max. I placed a bid on an item within the last 30 seconds of the auction, was top bid, refresh page, out bid, bid again, win the item for 300 less than the asking price of similar auctions within the last 10 seconds. Fuck the week long foreplay, the auction is won within the last few minutes to seconds.

Had a similar situation bidding on a game. Me and someone else kept going back and forth bidding within the last minute. Like Miscguy said, the auction is won within the last minutes to seconds. Bought three things of ebay, including an iPod, and havent had a problem with anything.

Just place your maximum bid at what you want to spend on it. If you get outbid, tough.
