Default maps without downloads,THE TRUTH - 08-18-2002, 11:47 AM

i sit here and watch guys ask questions about server side modded maps,,so thers no download nedded.the answers i see range from its impossoble to you can only add a few items to a map.and every rediculous thing in between...and i figured it was time someone who knows what hes talkin about set the record straight...the short story is this: anyone can modify any one of the stock multiplayer maps he chooses.and no will have to download a thing to play at his server.the catch is this..you cant create new objects like buildings or mountains ..as soon as you do that you map now becomes a download to play...in order to have a server side map with no downloads you MUST..REPEAT ...MUST..get your objects from the game cd...therefore any addons you put into your map..the other players already have it anyway..thats why theres no need for a download..ok...is it easy..no its not...can i lean it in 5 minutes..no you cant...can you tell me how to do it..no i cant...i cant put in one paragraph what took my months to figure out..is it worth the time..i think so..it creates a very playable and much better game to play...your maps are only limited by your imagination.dont let anyone tell you any different..im not guessing...i did it...can i learn to do it also..absolutely..i started with directions on how to add a machine gun to a map ...its on this site..and i figured that out and worked it on from there until i ended up with what i think is one of the best servers on the gamespy list,,,every object in the single player game can be added to the multiplayer maps,,,think of the possibilities...its endless...guys say there board with the game...CHANGE IT THEN AND HAVE A NEW GAME...there are 2 very well done server side maps at this site...one is for algiers..the other is for stalingrad...i use those and the other 5 i modded myself...in the single player maps there are submarines.in my crossroads map a sub sits in the river...thats an example of what can be done...NOW YOU KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT SERVER SIDE MAP MODS...i hope this helped to clear the air a little on this subject....if you would like more examples visit my server and take a look...its on the gamespy list BUTCHES ULTRAMOD/NODIALUPS .my server will hold 10 players...its tough to get in ,,,its mostly always full..but well worth the wait...i will respon to all posts about what i have written here...BUTCHER

This is nothing new...

There are many server sided map mods / fixes here.
None of them require a download - Where have you been?

Look in the downloads section...

Here's another loser talking crap over the internet. I wish people like this would be banned from forums. It cracked me up when Butcher says Ball is "too dence" - duh, the spelling is dense, MR.DENSE. With all his ranting we all know that "Bitch-er" is an idiot.

Wow, what an interesting thread. eatthis:

Butcher your first post is more confusing than helpful, especially since I've never seen anyone ask if serverside mods are possible. Thus a huge paragraph basically saying "Yes they are, I know how, I can't be bothered to tell you" is naturally going to get you a few less than complimentary responses. The basic procedures are documented in several guides, takes only a few minutes to learn.

However the main issue here is why should anyone care about making server side mods themselves? Most server admins don't have the time or inclination, and most mappers would rather make new maps. Server-side mods are a novelty, and a very limited one at that. Also there are very real engine issues introduced with server-side mods, there are two methods of dynamic spawning and the one used for most common objects causes engine errors. As far as I can tell, only vehicles and large weapons are meant to be dynamically spawned, severely limiting what you can spawn without causing engine errors. This is the main reason I switched from using barbwire fences in my Omaha fix to using a tank.

And finally, I didn't see anyone using my name, I saw someone offer an example and give credit to where he got it. Besides if someone was invoking my name they have to use Latin, all good invocations do. So take your medication, m'kay?
