Default have i ruined my map? - 08-18-2002, 05:12 AM

hi! have i blown my map. ive been making my map parts detail at the moment but thnx to some1 (the storm) he has just told me wat i have done wrong. ive been pressing make detail when i press the 2nd mouse button in 2d view. ive now made my stairs properly by using just the detail button but all my entity`s have allready been done with the make detail button. is this gonna ruin my map?. do i have to delete all my brushes and entitys? im gutted if it has. another thing is some of my brushes r walkthru, i know i have to make a brush to surround these but dont know what the tex is u apply to it so it blocks u from aking thru it in mgame. thnx for all ur help storm and any1 else that has taken time out to answer my newbie questions. if any1 replies to this thread id really appreciate thnx!!
p.s ive done the make detail on entitys such as chairs etc. ive also tried rectify this by pressing the detail button but it comes up couldnt create entity.

What entities do you mean, Windows , doors or static models?.
You can re-turn your brushes to strutural by selecting them and clicking make structural.
The ones that u walk through, you texture them with either, wood, metal texture. They are found in the textures/common menu.
If you have static models that you want to turn to detail you have to select them and bring up the entity window and them tick the detail box.

As i just learned the hard way are you making your brushes detail with right mouse button ??

Are they turning blue or yellow?

yellow is bad
blue is good.

is the detail located lower downt he right mouse menu.

i just found that out the hard way.

Static models can be made detail using the way i described.
If you have walk trhough models just mke a box around the parts you want blocked and and add the approprete clip texture. E.G wooden chair u would use the wood clip.
As to making doors and windows detail, i have done before and apart from reducing the vis data size it doesn't seem to make much difference. When the map is being used whats inside the rooms is drawn by the engine as windows and doors don't block the view.
I have seen a tut somewhere about using hint brushes used for cutting down fps, but i didn't really understand it to well and never tried it.
Anyhow hope this helps
