This has to handled very carefully, you are dealing with aborted fetuses and big money. That combo can be bad. Severe limitations need to be inplace (as they are now) it is good to research it but it must be done carefully

I believe the goal is to grow organs that went bad, if you need a kidney they want to be able to grow you one (unless Im completly mistaken) then there would be no compatibitity problems. Your body shouldnt reject the organ because its your own tissue

[quote:0b465]to promote science which destroys life in order to save life — I'm against that,[/quote:0b465]

That is the single most fundamentally flawed thing I've ever heard. The irony is those embryos that develop into human life will still have the same disease that we could have cured.

[quote:0b465]The best way to honor this great champion of human freedom is to continue to build a culture of life where the strong protect the weak.[/quote:0b465]

So by not allowing possible cures for people who suffer from these awful diseases your protecting the weak?

Living human’s first, possible life later.

[quote:0b465]you shouldnt be able to genetically engineer your kids[/quote:0b465]

What the hell does that have to do with anything? This is about using stem cells to cure diseases not building the uber baby.

Shitty movie.

Perfection of the human race, and advanced space travel yet one of the main characters is in a wheel chair.

I completely agree with Spike here, and great find BTW...I hadn't seen this +1.

Sacrificing life to preserve it is the very basis of the best qualities of Mankind. We refere to those who make such a sacrifice as the ultimate heroes.
But, that is beside the point. It has been shown that with some basic evolution of technology the needed stem cells could be cultivated from the frickin' hair at the bottom of your shower.

Also, this is not some research that is targeted at creating the first batch of engineered children, it has a much more noble intent, and is part of the very core of our future survival as a race.
This could allow us to defeat the greatest threat mankind has ever known, and by that I mean our progress towards the elimination of viral and cancerous illness.

I do of course understand that mankind as a whole may not be ready for this. We are still a race divided and there are certainly those out there who would use this kind of technology for the worst of purposes.
But never...not a single time have we let that stop us, why should this be any different?
I won't go into a Bush bashing frenzy here, but I do not agree with the president on this, mostly because of his inabillity to understand more than his own viewpoint.

yes, i agree with stackem. I have no problem about wanting to help a person with a disease. I just have the problem of the possibility that some powerful corperation could get their hands on the technology and start cloning humans. Whenever you start dealing with 'building' flesh, there must be large restrictions in my opinion.

Yeah, I think it's silly that people get all worried about stem cell research, and these same people don't even bat an eyelid when some new super power gun is invented....Which is more dangerous to humanity?

We've had nukes for about 60 years - not to mention all other kinds of WMDs, and so far these haven't been used by "the wrong people," so really, what's the worst that could happen with stem cell research? I mean, at least they have a very obvious bright side that could possibly solve several problems for humanity in general. What have nukes really done for us besides make us absolutey paranoid about our neighbours and their intentions....It's driven us to war for fucks sake.

I have no problem with stem cell research at all, when its stacked up against things we already have.
