Because simple people need to be encouraged to support their governments actions. Even those who support the cause need to be bombarded continuously so that they continue to remain behind the actions. People forget things all too easily.

We don't even know for sure who attacked on the 11th. While I'm convinced they were terrorists, the name Al-Qaeda and the picture of bin Laden has been thrown at us to place a face on the people involved. This video continues to build that image. You think if bin Laden is caught that will be the end of it? You think he is the dictator for life leader of the network? These people operate in cells, and it is very hard to identify them as an evil. Thus we create our image of them so that the public thinks it has an understanding of what is going on. Reality, in this day and age, is created by the TV. The problem is, it isn't real.

You're missing the point. The video wasn't released to "reveal the truth", but to produce an image, a conception and encourage certain ideas. My question, is how does that affect the political institutions such as the media? What happens when we're not presented with even a basic attempt (I say attempt because nothing is objective) at objective news.

But it is even more dangerous. As I said, is this what passes for news now on CNN? Plastering this all over their screens and their website (its on the mainpage for Christ's sake) suggests that suffering elsewhere around the world is less important. Indeed, it is taking up precious airtime that could be used to encourage the awareness bigger issues.

Who here actually looked at my link about the millions of chilrend who die each year from drinking water? Who read it? I would have a guess that maybe one or two people (and I would probably be able to tell you their names).

I read the stats about the children.......

And our own government used to shoot stray dogs in different parts of the body to see how effective the bullets were......makes you think of what really happened behind closed doors.

Right, so knowing that the men who commited the act were part of Al-Qaeda, is'nt proof enough for you?

Where did I say that they meant us no harm, a quote please? All I'm stating is that the video means nothing.

Besides, that kind of torturing goes on in every western nation on a daily basis (even excluding government work).

On a final note, I find it incredible that I post the list of children who have died in the Palestine-Israel conflict only to get responses of "why the f*** should I care?" followed by jokes. Yet, this, this video of nothing (yes, it is awful an animal suffers, but compared to what is going on elsewhere) brings out great rage directed at a group that we have no proof is connected to it. Green, why do you persist in making pointless comments. As I said it doesn't prove anything. There is no proof in that video that Al-Qaeda committed the act. But there are other issues at stake here, such as the importance attached to certain news articles. Do you not read the posts?

I don't think most people here really appreciate what carnage is. I'm no expert on it, but my family has lived through great suffering during the Communist period and I was there to witness it first hand. When people speak of blowing people up, they don't understand what the means, let alone the political issues at stake.

No, I just expect news agencies to take on a proper role in bringing information to the masses. Information that matters and is backed up with valid sources. This has nothing to do with conspiracy theories. In fact, quite the opposite. I request proof.

What exactly is it that you have there? Did you not read my posts? Video footage is always edited and it is very easy to setup a picture so it looks like certain relationships exist. There is no proof that what you're seeing is an Al-Qaeda test. None, what-so-ever. The purpose of its release is quite clear though. In instill greater hatred towards the specified group. It seems to have done its job very well here.

Wow, you're giving Green a run for his money in the not-paying-attention category. CNN is far from "liberal". If you left your country you'd notice that around the world it is seen as the typical patriotic/nationalistic American news network (along with Fox). I've covered this already, but you're making comments without reading my posts.

Besides which, newsagencies like CNN will do anything for ratings.
