Default Scientology - 06-27-2005, 01:21 PM

The Tom Cruise vs. Matt Lauer thread prompted me to do a little research. I am at work after all. I was just wondering what the opinions are on scientology. I found some interesting reads and quotes
here.

I was also slightly amused that on the official Scientology website, that if one tried to click on the principles of the religion link, you are directed to a page that tries to sell you a book without specifically describing the principles.

[quote:74fc5]In the late 1940s, pulp writer L. Ron Hubbard (and Scientology founder) declared:

"Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion"

[/quote:74fc5]

[quote:74fc5]The results of applying their oversimplified and inapplicable rules in life is to lose the ability to think rationally and logically. A person loses the ability to think for themselves and so they lose the ability to challenge incorrect ideas. This makes them easier to control. It also isolates and alienates the person from society so that they withdraw from normal society and into their "Scientology" society. This further increases their susceptibility to the influence of their group. They end up being afraid of society, believing all society to be controlled by a group of drug companies, psychiatrists and financiers all of whom report to more remote masters. In other words they are in a state of mass paranoia. They therefore avoid reading newspapers and the like since they fear it will disturb their safe Scientology world. It is a downward spiral into madness.[/quote:74fc5]

Sounds like Tom Cruise to me.

[quote:74fc5]On the "advanced" levels (called OT levels) above the state of "Clear" they encounter the story of Xenu. Xenu was supposed to have gathered up all the overpopulation in this sector of the galaxy, brought them to Earth and then exterminated them using hydrogen bombs. The souls of these murdered people are then supposed to infest the body of everyone. They are called "body thetans". On the advanced levels of Scientology a person "audits out" these body thetans telepathically by getting them to re-experience their being exterminated by hydrogen bombs. So people on these levels assume all their bad thoughts and faulty memories are due to these body thetans infesting every part of their body and influencing them mentally. Many Scientologists go raving mad at this point if they have not done so already.[/quote:74fc5] oOo: oOo: stupid:

I know nothing about the "religion", but everything about it screams cult to me.

Sham-a-lama-ding-dong.

It's only called a religion because Hubbard needed a way of making cash tax free. It's an alternative to psychiatry really, until you get to the higher levels (which require a deep pocket).

BTW, Hubbard had the creativity of a 12 year old. Xenu supposedly transported billions of people through space on DC-8's, which were commercial jets during the 50's. Hmmm, he wrote the story in the 50's...genius. Also, the people wore clothes that were very similar to clothing of the 50's.

Karl Marx said it best "Religion is the opium of the masses."
