[quote="Jimmy Paterson":d56e7]no they dont matter its all about game re-play value for me[/quote:d56e7]
agreed. With games being at the average 50$ games are almost an investment. You need to have it be like morrowing or GTA:SA. Games with unlimited opprotunities usually turn out to be some of my favorites.

Yup, im trying to add more weight to the graphics = important camp, bf2 is a prime example of good gfx coupled with great gameplay. It has some flaws but every game does.

depends on the game i guess. for most games, story and gameplay are first priority, once those are covered and are good, then graphics are up next. obviously a game with good story and gameplay and shitty graphics won't be so enjoyed compared to one with good story and gameplay and awesome next gen graphics. but in general, graphics are probably the 3rd most important thing someone should look for in a game. |

Well doom 3 was never meant to be anything more than doom on a new engine with more of a slow approach to it, it acheived that.

Im not supporting pyro here or anything but isn't this all a matter of opinion. If pyro likes a great story on his pokemon advance then that is what he want. There is know point in ranting him about it. |

if i had a choice between MOHAA and BF:Vietnam (that's the only bf game I've played) I'd choose mohaa b/c of the style of gameplay. I think it's unfair though to compare different gameplay since you might have the propensity to choose one over the other. |

I wasn't really meaning here im just saying across this board it happens alot. People state their opinion on a matter and if someone doesn't agree with it its automatically put down. Such as with music. |

Ohhhhhhhh this was the perfect time for this convo to come up.
I was just playing [a href/OLDSCHOOL] System Shock and Fallout 1/2 [end teh oldzchool plzplz] today, and let me say: Really, truly perfect game design is still powerful 100 years after it comes out. How many people, even still, play Pong? At last years Penny-arcade Expo, the end game challenge for like some huge prize was to win a game of Pong.

Challenging, well designed, games with immersive storylines will transcend any age. Hell, parts of World of Warcraft still get compared to Frogger (dont ask, its too complex and nerdy to explain)

However, as with any good movie, the setting will always fuel sooooo much of the story. Likewise, if Fallout had taken place in a lush grassy field, it wouldnt have been any good at all, you wouldnt have felt the harsh, dead atmosphere. So, unfortunately, the better the graphics, the more immersive and amazing the story will remain. Terrible tie-in that one...because you go back and play games and spend nearly the whole time going "Damn, this is so awesome...if only someone redid it so it was ACTUALLY believable"

While good graphics are nice to have, Its not my first criteria when looking for a game. People put too much importance on graphics now. Developers are more concerned with bullshit like "realistic facial light reflection" and "ploygon refractories" or whatever than they are about making games fun. Gameplay should always be first. |
