Default hosting-N- connection speeds - 08-24-2002, 06:30 AM

Let me start off by saying that I'm on a high speed connection. Now then, my server cfg. file has a setting of 125 for maxping and 10 for maxplayers and for the most part it does the job but after awhile say about 2 hrs of play I start getting flooded with high pings anywhere from 450 to 999. I'm sure their dialups but how can my server not let them in and all of a sudden start getting blasted by them? Plus one other thing, the other day I started up a game and only one player joined in and right off the bat his ping was 450. I asked several times was he lagging but he said no. He told me he was on dialup. Two questions come to mind: how did he join in without getting server timed out and second how could he have not been lagging?

Well, even though you have a "high-speed" connection (Cable, DSL) you still will get a shitty server. Even with maxping, and maxrate, you can only host about 6 - 10 people without having more than 500ms on their pings. It's just the way those connections are.

As for the 56Ker, it's possible he could of just been screwing with you.

Default TRY AUTO KICK - 08-24-2002, 12:24 PM

i run a server much like yours,,,i host 10 players...the trick to is..set the auto kick to 150 for highest ping...i know thats low...but it weeds out the slow guys right quick...i set it to overlook the first sweep on a new guy to give the ping a chance to settle down...high ping guy will last 1 minute..hes gone...not too many dial ups can hang under 150 for very long..itll reduce your lag and itll kick the players by itself,,you just sit back and enjoy the game..i run a p4 1.8 gig..with 1 gig of ddr memory..radeon card..my server runs very well...i hope that helps a little...BUTCHER
