This is the latest data for calendar year 2003 just released in October 2005 by the Internal Revenue Service. The share of total income taxes paid by the top 1% of wage earners rose to 34.27% from 33.71% in 2002. Their income share (not just wages) rose from 16.12% to 16.77%. However,

Well, people make a huge deal on why Rich people try to get away from paying so many taxes ... with these figures I wouldn't want to be paying so much.

What are the options on taxing? The flat tax ... where there is a tax for every good, excluding prostitutes

yeah, it's a very interesting fact. They pay for practically all of what the lower 50% get from the government.

I am all for a flat tax, if you buy more then you pay more. Its that simple. The BIG plus is all the illegals would have to pay tax as well. Right now about 50% of what I make goes to taxes so if there was a flat tax of 20% to 25% it would be as if I got a raise

It would also bankrupt the country, unless Forbes had a secret trick to making it work.

I personally dislike taxes, and the amount taken away - but there really is no reason I should be taxed at the same rate as a Single mother with three kids - or a Fortune 500 company.

Yeah that is a good point about a fortune 500 being taxed the same as a mother, however I believe that there are several programs to help the mother. Also the fortune 500 company is being taxed on the goods it makes ... it did not become a fortune 500 by making shit.
