Committee for Sportsmanship FAQ

Q: What is the Committee for Sportsmanship
A: The Committee was established as a standing committee under the order of LtCol Ghoul of the Devils Brigade clan after an internal report was issued to the TDB officers about the issue of cheating and hacking. Its mandate is to research and educate about the specific issues and problems arising from cheating and hacking in Medal of Honor.

Q: Why is the Committee contacting me?
A: Part of the Committee's mandate is to establish lines of communication between Medal of Honor clans to discuss, educate and share information about cheating. Also, the Committee is attempting to build an ever larger base of support so that we can bring pressure to bear on the appropriate companies, like Electronic Arts and 2015.

Q: Who is on the Committee and how many members does it have?
A: The Committee is currently staffed by TDB members LtCol Ghoul, Capt Ultima, Capt Nitehawk and 2ndLt Red Guard as the chief adjutant. There are plans to expand the committee to incorporate other standing members, but currently all clans who are willing to support the Committee are considered members. In that sense, we have the support of over 35 clans, comprising a total of approx. 600 members.

Q: What has the Committee learned about cheating so far?
A: Our research has been threefold: a) the mechanics of the hacks; b) the social ramifications for the community; c) the tracking of the hacks and their developers. With respect to the mechanics, we have obtained a number of the hacks available and have stipped them apart to see how they work. Armed with this information, we are preparing to move into the next stage of how to defeat them, if possible. Our research into the social aspects of cheating has dealt largely with logging accusations of cheating, tracing the apparent effects that cheating has had on inter-clan interactions, and keeping in contact with clans who are accusing/accused. As far as the hacks themselves, we are keeping a log of the availability, the distribution and the development of the hacks via forums, email, and the web. The developers are now well known to us and will remain under surveillance.

Q: What has the Committee done about all of this?
A: We are just now moving into Phase 2 of our mandate which will include positive and reactionary activities to counter the cheating, cheaters and cheat developers. We are currently developing strategies for Phase 2 which will be discussed at the Committee for Sportsmanship Conference.

Q: What can the rest of us do for now?
A: The most important thing for people to do is to support the Committee by keeping up to date with news and information, and keeping in contact with the Committee. Phase 2 will involve the formalization of the Committee to expand the standing members and the establishment of a website. Throw our logo on your signature or on your website (available soon at http://thedevilsbrigade.gamerclans.com/main/ under the downloads section).
Another important thing to remember is to keep the cheating accusations out of the public sphere, and discourage your teammates from hurling accusations. There is a difference between accusing someone of cheating and observing strange behaviour. When in doubt, give someone the benefit of the doubt. We must learn to trust each other before we can work together.
