Default Internet Help - 12-25-2005, 07:40 AM

Need help. We got another computer in our house and wished to connect it to the internet. We always had problems with it picking up a signal with the wireless intnert. So we bought a eithernet cable to connect from the router to the computer. We connected it and it said the computer has internet etc. It even downloaded a couple windows updates and scan download updates for other programs. But when we try to go on internet explorer on it it says failed to connect to server etc. Any suggestions?

check the internet settings in ie

Tools internet options

1) under connections delete all Dialup and virtual private network settings in the box. Then click LAN settings and make sure "automatically detect settings" is checked.

BTW, is the interent working on other applications (firefox if installed) MSN etc??

You could try accessing the routers control panel (usually http://192.168.123.1.1) and try reconfiguring it or restarting the router.

windows or 3rd party firewall blocking things?

try going in control panel and turning off windows firewall and or make sure no 3rd party one is in there and if so try turning them off to see if thats the prob.

Maybe if its a new router you need to see if the ports for aim and OE and all that shiz is open

I've turned off the firewall on that computer....would it affect it if I had one on this computer? Also i've tried to access the router control panel but it seems like the ip that was posted doesnt work and i have no idea what the ip for it would be.

put your router cd in the computer.

Make sure it is plugged into the MODEM not the router. and run the wizard. It'll then ask you to plug the computer into the router and it will usually configure the IP for you.

Might be slightly different for you, but it worked for me.

usually your router ip is 198.162.0.1 or something along that line
