Well, I'm assuming that none of us have ever been in a situation where we'd need airplane seatbelts. I guess they're useful if the plane is in distress and happens to take a real big dip. You could conceivably fly up and hit the roof...or those little reading lights above your head.

Air brakes are nothing to do with an emergiencies. There designed break the airflow over the wing, causing the plane to lose alot of height (i.e. when on final)

I dont understand what u mean by using airbrakes when a plane crashes

Smaller aircraft have the pilot/co pilots strapped in pernamently, as their more likely to make steeper turns, causing the pilots to be sliding around in their seats (sorta like when driving a car. The belts help secure you to the centre of the seat (simular to bucket seats in a car).

AS others have said there used on airliners when facing large turbulance.
