There's two things:

1) Check in the Advanced panel in the Disply Properties to make sure Gamma Correction is on.

2) Check the brightness on your monitor.

com_maxfps 250

Nothing over 500. 250 works fine.

I tried the 40 drivers and they are much faster than the 30.82 ones. They diffinitely sacrifice graphics though. I went from 10.600 to 11,500 on 3dmark. No matter how much I messed with the settings I couldn't get the color to look as good as the 30.82 drivers. Oh and one more thing I almost forgot when I used the 40 drivers my side buttons on my Microsoft Intelli Mouse stopped working. I tried everything I could think of to get them to work with no avail. As soon as I put the 30.82 drivers back in the side buttons worked again. Maybe when their official and not beta they will fix this bug.

Go into task manager and stop the run32.dll and see if your side buttons work.

the nView portion of there new drivers cause a lot of problems with many apps.
