I dunno how I feel about this, because sometimes it gets to a point where emergencies get to a point beyond ethics. I don't know much about that specific epidemic of brain infection, but I know with AIDS, a lot of people (even African health organization leaders) are saying that they need to test drugs on people asap, before it gets even worse.

wow, that's strange. So basically the pharma companies are telling doctors to prescribe their drugs to patients who don't need them? Isn't that a problem with the doctors as well? I mean, they're the ones who are actually doing the wrong thing, the pharm companies are only providing an incentive to do it. O course that's still wrong, but you'd think they would be focusing on the doctors at fault as well.

The entire pharma industry is interesting...I still remember my sisters old boyfriends father. He was a type of bone surgeon and doctor, he often went on trips paid by drug companies..even went golfing a few times and went to conferences etc. They basically pay doctors to sell their products. Kind of like the whole "the fugitive" plot. Every time I see my doctor he desperately wants to give me drugs.

I think the companies are held responsible because they push the doctors so that their voice can be heard. Change the medical system then the lobbyist will go away. But you have a point.

yeah, the doctors are still being fraudulent, and they are choosing to be, therefore they should be held responsible...

this has changed bigtime, I work for the worlds largest orthopeadic implant company. Everything is monitored by the govt regarding gifts. When I started here they would take docs all over the place on the company tab. That just doesnt happen any more. There has been a crack down on "gifts", they are now limited to something like $50. One of our competitors just got whacked by the govt for going outside the new rules. The one thing you still get away with is the lunches, our sales reps are always feeding the OR staff and CPD.

Well I heard that story a few years ago..Plus Canadian health care system is obviously different than the American system. Things won't get better here when the two tier system gets set up..oh shit.
