I really don't think searching meaningless electronic information is wrong. If you ask me, the only thing that may be wrong with it is the waste of time the governement is taking. I'd rather have my money go to someone watching cameras rather than looking through my credit card bill to which movies I've attended and trying to put a personality sketch together of my film preferences. If anything, it's a waste of man power and money--not an intrusion of my freedoms.

I think the point is that these are the kind of things you would expect from a KGB like organization or china or north korea, no?

Why should anyone know what you've bought or where you've went. Especially without your consent.

You may not have a problem with it, and thats fine for you, but others may have, and they have not given their consent.

The truth is the law keepsbeing bent. Wire tapping etc only with a warrant. Then wire tapping without a warrant but only if there is reasonable suspicion, then wiretapping whenever requested and the justification is your security.

Where is the line drawn? Does ther need to be a line drawn? Should we all just get implantable chips so someone can track every move you make? Then you know if someone is a citizen or not, or where they were during a crime or something like that. But why should this information be disclosed?

My belief is you shouldn't have to give up any liberty for security, but that people are perfectly willing to do so, which is sad.

How does an average person give up liberty in those cases? People don't even know they are being watched, so how can it infringe on their rights if they don't even know it's happening and it doesn't affect them in any way? As long as there are checks for corruption and misuse, these "violations of liberty" don't affect anyone negatively except for people who are doing something wrong...

The world changes in the blink of an eye - There is no telling what could happen next, and the U.S isn't free from falling into turmoil, just like the rest of the countries of the world.

With that technology at hand, the ability to know everything about everyone and the ability to trace anyone would put alot of control in a few peoples hands - Which potentially can be very dangerous. That's the way I see it anyway.

Yeah, there is potential for that, but I said "as long as there are checks for corruption and misuse" it would be ok. If you could make it so you can monitor the eavesdropping and whatnot, then the potential for danger will be seriously limited.
