The person who comes up to you really has nothing to do with the question. The person isn't crazy, and really doesn't even have to exist in this hypothetical situation, it's just easier to say that someone told you this instead of you knowing it without anyone telling you. It just makes the question make more sense.

I guess what the question boils down to is are you willing to risk your life to partake in something that could end up being one of the most extrodinary things ever in the history of the human race.

FYI, myself I would say yes, the only thing I would give a second thought to would be my family. it would probably be hard on them if I just disappeared one day out of the blue.
