I say let them have it. If they take care of nuclear equipment like they maintain their aircraft we have nothing to worry about.

does anyone have any serious opinions? What does this defiance mean for the UN, who was blatantly defied and did nothing before the whole Iraq mess. What will they do this time?

I think some of the more powerful countries are going to agree on something, either economic pressures, or even multilateral military pressure. I would prefer for this to be solved on a global scale, not just by the United States but it needs to be solved somehow. I don't think Iran with nukes is safe right now and I think the world should step up and do something about it and not let Iran make a mockery of international regulations.

Noone cares.

If they were gonna do something they probably would have done it by now - You put more pressure on them and they're just going to do it anyway.

While the acquisition of nuclear weapons by any country is troubling, the IAEA, CIA and other says Iran is most likely 10 or more years away from attaining this feat. So while it is serious, I would say the more serious issue to deal with is North Korea and how far their nuclear program has advanced.

Still, the main problem with dealing with NK is that they have already obtained the technology. It seems to me that stopping Iran from completing their nuclear program might save us the trouble of having two NK situations in the future.

If NK has already obtained the technology and can actually launch a nuke, wouldn't that make them the graver situation by default?

yes, that's not what I'm saying though. The fact that NK has nukes makes that situations a lot more risky RIGHT NOW. If Iran develops nukes, it will create 2 very difficult situations. What I'm saying is that we should nip this now so we don't have ANOTHER sketchy situation in Iran like we do in NK.
