Default Exp Pack: Spearhead Bug Fixes Summary - 09-13-2002, 03:39 PM

Many of you already know of the large thread over on PMoH about bugfixes, but I thought I'd grab EA's posts from Chris Shelton and drop em over here as a quick summary for those who don't want to wade thru the posts. Each quote is followed by a direct link to that post.

[quote="Aug 27, 02":880eb]Hey everyone, I'm just probing here to get a little input. I'm working on the new addon and just so you know, numerous problems in multiplayer have been fixed, but I'd like to get a feel for major issues that might still need attention.

This is by no means an official request, so please don't think that if you post here, a fix will occur. Please be constructive, doing so may just help us all have a better multiplayer experience this time around.

Thanks!

The spawn killing issues have been addressed, going under the map (for the new maps) will be supported as well when these things arise via a new map release (if necessary) or a simple script update to address the problem.

There is no class based system, sorry, but if the SDK ships as scheduled, modders won't have a problem adding classes. As of now, there are no plans to ship with PunkBuster protection or similar functionality, but who knows, maybe in a patch. I will see what can be done about changing teams rapidly.

Please explain what you mean by "drop grenades"

Yes the netcode is a great point and something we've really worked on to try to improve. The sources of the netcode problems were many, and we've tackled some of them. The game should be much more playable on a 56k now, as well as broadband. Packet sizes were too big, too much information was being sent to the client, therefore you get a choppy game.

Creating a profile is something you should be able to do already using .cfg files, and a simple exec command.

The ingame server browser is much improved with some simple filtering options. Sorry, but you'll have to use Gamespy to find your buddies, no buddy lists or favorites have been integrated.

What specific onscreen text are you referring to that should be removed?

Leaning while running has been removed.

Calling votes now lets you select a name from a menu, just as in RTCW.

I'm working on weapons right now, and we may rebalance some of the old weapons for multiplayer.

Being a MOH server admin I would like to see more admin tools incorporated into the game. I would check out Crow Kings Autokick. He has done some amazing things for us MOH admins.

I am trying to contact Crow King right now.

it would be nice to make use of the serial number so people would think twice b4 trying to cheat. On a much larger scale. not just map glitching but the use of wall hacks and other binary cheats.

Map glitching should be well taken care of as map checksums have been re-enabled. I'm not sure why they were ever turned off. For those of you who might not know, map checksums prevent players from playing with a map that is not identical to the server's copy. This would fix numerous problems with map hacking but other things like removal of trees and such will have to be handled by other means. I'm checking into seeing what's wrong with SV_PURE. I think we can probably get it working.

The grenades things. is you can drop a grenade and then switch teams b4 your grenade goes off killing the other team.

This is an easy fix, although not glamourous we could simply remove any projectiles that you "own" when you switch teams. So rockets might disappear while in flight. Grenades would vanish before exploding. We are discussing what to do about team changing in general, so many things are being considered.

[quote="Sep 12, 02":880eb]Just FYI, we're here, we're listening and rest assured that we are compiling information daily. I'm entering some of the more predominant bugs into our bug database to get fixes in place before shipping. We're already implemented some of the fixes based on your responses, problems we might not have known existed without your input, so thanks to you all!

Also, just a general note about multiplayer changes, we weigh every decision heavily and test it thoroughly before making permanent changes. More specifically, we're not going to change certain things unless we truly feel it's a detriment to gameplay, an exploit that causes grief, or something that just needs rebalancing. For instance, we won't change the shotgun damage because twenty people here ask for a change, rather we'll listen to requests, we'll review the information, and we'll make a decision based on what's best for the game.

Another example of this is the "leaning while running" fix. This fix was implemented a long time ago, the change was weighed and tested, and the conclusion was that it was never intended to be a gameplay style, just like bunnyhopping.

So please keep the suggestions coming (although many of the bases have been covered) and thanks again, you're all being a tremendous help!

Ladder tricks and MG42 tricks may have just been fixed! Our Technical Director located the problem, and updated the code. I'll test it out soon to verify.

This fix should resolve any kind of team switching while in an altered movestate (attached to ladders, mg42, and anything else that prevents you from dying on a team change. Please keep the giant bugs like this one coming, most are an easy fix.
