It doesn't matter if Simon was turning or not, or if he had time to let up or not. At the point of the hit, Simon's back was to him, and his face hit the glass. Boarding.[/quote:9911f]
yes it does. whether its written or not doesnt matter, a good ref would not call that boarding. ive seen it many times

Whether it;'s written or not it doesn't matter? oOo:
Thats' the rule. Refs call the game based upon the rulebook. The rules are there to protect the players. Simon's face went into the glass. It's a boarding penalty.
And I played hockey too. I broke both bones in my arm on a clean check along the boards while I was trying to get the puck out of our zone.

he turned into the glass, not anyones fault but his own. refs call it by their own discretion.. and in the NHL the refs know their shit hence the boarding call was not made. lets not turn hockey into fucking soccer where we can pretend to be hurt

You can't hit a player from behind. It's that simple. Ever see minor hockey players with the stop signs on the back of their jerseys?

[quote:304d8]In 1996, Kevin Stubbington of Windsor Minor Hockey developed the Safety Towards Other Players (STOP) Program in hopes of raising awareness of the dangers of checking from behind in the game of hockey.
Since 1999, over 400,000 patches have been distributed throughout Ontario and to places around North America such as California, Ohio, Newfoundland, British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. Since McDonald’s involvement with the STOP Program, there have been approximately 300,000 McDonald’s STOP patches distributed jerseys across Ontario.
It is strongly encouraged that all amateur hockey associations adopt this worthwhile program and have all programs at representative, local league and house league involved. The program is relatively low maintenance and sends a message to all participants that the dangerous act of checking-from-behind is not accepted in the game of hockey. The overall values of safety and fair play are also a part of this world-renowned program.[/quote:304d8]

yes, we had those on our jerseys back in highschool. And its NOT that simple, if the player turns into it last second, its not a penalty because its his fault and the checker cant do anything about it. im not going to keep arguing this because i KNOW im right, ive been playing hockey for years, captain for much them so i got to talk to alot of referees when the coach is blowing up over a non call... any ref will tell you this is not a penalty.

# A minor or major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee, based upon the degree of violence of the impact with the boards, shall be imposed on any player who checks an opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to be thrown violently in the boards.
(NOTE) Any unnecessary contact with a player playing the puck on an obvious "icing" or "off-side" play which results in that player being knocked into the boards is "boarding" and must be penalized as such. In other instances where there is no contact with the boards, it should be treated as "charging".
# When a major penalty is imposed under this Rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed.
# Any player who incurs a total of two (2) game misconducts for Boarding under Rule 44 (b), in either Regular Season or Playoffs, shall be suspended automatically for the next game of his Team. For each subsequent game misconduct penalty the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game.
# When a major penalty is imposed under this Rule, an automatic fine of one hundred dollars ($100) shall be imposed.[/quote:d70ba]

Ray Ferraro said it was boarding. Jim Rome said it was boarding. Watch HNIC tonight and I'm sure Don and Ron will say it was boarding as well.

how many refs did they ask? whats his face with the long hair who is an NHL only reporter on ESPN said it was a clean hit also. technically, it was boarding, sure, im not arguing that.. actually id say it was a hit from behind if anything.. but it was a clean hit under the circumstances and should not have been called a penalty

I never had those useless things but I've seen other teams wearing them. It's just drilled into your head from day one not to hit people from behind.
And it's not a penalty if the puck holder turns at the last second when he's aware (you should always be aware of a hit coming if you've had the puck for more than 4 seconds) of a check coming.
