Oh I thought you were talking about CoD4. You know, because this is the CoD 4 thread.

yeah but bucknub made the point about airborne which i quoted when i replied. eek:
Also most likely cod 4 is pc as well, can't see the console systems getting 2 of them in a row with no pc version in sight.

Infinity Ward are a PC developer, mainly compromised of PC developers, makes no sense why they would not release a PC version especially when their proprietary engine works on both consoles and PCs.
I would have liked to have gotten CoD3 on the PC but Treyarch's engine is built solely for console hardware.

Infinity wards "proprietary" engine is nothing but a quake 3 engine thats been dicked around with (at least for cod 1+2). Ea made the same claims with pacific assault being a new engine, it was quake 3 with a d3d renderer instead of opengl.

Yep. In fact, CoD 2 was little more than the Quake 3 engine with an absurd amount of bumpmapping to make it look modern. The product was a halfway shitty looking game with like 10 fps.

I don't remember seeing iD logo's/name on the box or on game start up for CoD2. Infinity Ward aren't even paying licensing fees to iD for their new game, nor did they for CoD2. I think that in itself says it's their engine, saying otherwise is just an insult to the hard working programmers at Infinity Ward.
They licensed Quake engine for CoD1 and started building their own engine at the same time, structuring it like Quake since the entire team had worked with it before (MoH:AA ring any bells), so no big surprise if they have the same "feel" to them.
But, I guess we can all believe what we want about their engine as no one will ever have sufficient proof (source code).
I'm picking up CoD4 on release day as well as MoH:A.
CoD4 for mapping/play and MoH:A for mapping. beer:

Well at the back of the cod2 box at the bottom it says the following:
This product contains software code from id software inc.

Touche.
But what exactly is the code for is the question? Obviously it can't be for a lot or else they'd be paying iD software.
Perhaps because they use Radiant still with Quake encoding?

PC version would be nice, just couldn't get into BattleFeild and Americas Army was way to much work for me (game-play itself was nice).

I'm guesstimating on this but I'd say most folks that play CoD2 etc are not doing so because it's pretty. I run it in DX7 mode just to boost my FPS.

Hence the analogy (compare a sheet of paper to a tree). A sheet of paper in its most primitive form was derived from a tree at some point. This is the same instance.
In terms of how much does it have to differ from the Quake III Engine not to be the quake III engine anymore? I don't know that technical answer, that sounds like a question for Legal. This is really splitting hairs. I can say that the difference between any Quake engine and our engine, is probably the same amount of differences between my earlier analogy of the differences between a sheet of paper and a tree. Simply because their similar doesn't mean they're the same, is some of the code the same. I couldn't tell you (not because I'm not allowed, because I don't know)
Again, Not the same engine. End of story. Feel free to take it or leave it, conspiracy theories are always fun to read.

Cut and dry, our engine is SIMPLY not a Quake engine. If it was, in any manner, we would be paying licensing fees to iD, and you would see their logos on our boxes. Trust me, if anyone would know if we were using their code enough to have to license it, it would be iD and there would be a bill in our inbox.
This is really beating a dead horse at this point. I'm not sure how we can explain it any clearer, but if you have any questions feel free to let me know and I'll explain it the best I can. ;D
