Tallest skyscraper in the world (already) -

The Burj-Dubai, located in Dubai City, UAE, is under construction. It will be the world's tallest building, by far, when completed. In fact, it's already the world's tallest building anyway, and it's only about 50% completed.

Keep in mind those buildings next to it are between 30-45 stories, which is about the size of the tallest buildings in San Francisco.

The building itself will contain hotels, shops, restaurants, apartments, malls, theaters, and almost anything else you can imagine will probably go in it. It's an incredible feat, with the final height of the building being over a half a mile high. The original plan called for one mile high, but that's just impossible right now.

Well some say that with the spire added, they may re-announce the final height to be close to 1000 meters. The structure in itself is still going to be at least 750 meters, and probably still 800 meters, which is astounding considering most high-rise skyscrapers today are about 250-300 meters.

UAE is a staging ground for American, Canadian, British, Australian, German and the rest of NATO. It is the doorway to the middle east. Actually, all the NATO countries in the middle east probably have forward operations there. I knew a bunch of guys that went over there last year to do security operations for other Canadian Forces in the area.

Yep, the UAE is the most pro-western region in the Middle East, and also the most innovative and prosperous region. Instead of relying on oil as a means to prosperity, they've decided to become prosperous through advancement and innovation in technology and markets, while using oil as a reserve, much like a gold standard. Muslims who live in the region have quite different beliefs, particularly in social matters. For example, women wear "normal" clothes (i.e. they dress like whores as they do here in the U.S.). Many citizens speak English, another no-no for a lot of Middle-Eastern nations. Dubai is disliked by most radical Islamic areas, perhaps out of difference of religious beliefs, or out of jealously at the success of the emirate. Dubai's airport is freaking awesome BTW.
