Default Bush's new power - 06-04-2007, 01:05 PM

resident Bush, without so much as issuing a press statement, on May 9 signed a directive that granted near dictatorial powers to the office of the president in the event of a national emergency declared by the president.

Read about it here.

Wouldn't Bush require half a brain to use this.

The man is leader of the most powerful nation on earth. I don't think that usually happens by accident. Either Bush himself, or the people he has working for him (or he works for) are extremely smart. They have done a good job at creating a culture of fear in the US whereby people feel the only viable response to terrorism is the Republican party. And to me, they've executed this plan with great precision.

Although the nazi parties views were far more radical - They did essentially the same thing, which is scary.

oOo:

Slightly over simplification and over exaggeration of things no?

Since when does declaring that your opposition is soft on X, amount to the second coming of the Nazi Regime?

Maybe...

It is just my opinion of course, and obviously holds little weight seeing as I have no power.

Our political pendulum had swung far to the right at our last presidential elections and is headed back to the center as evidenced by the mid-term elections.

But all you need is another terrorist attack and the pendulum will swing back to the right.

I watched some of the Republican presidential debate the other night, and it was funny. The question was about Gays in the Military and Rudy Juliani somehow turned that question into how the US should handle terrorism etc. I did generally like what Ron Paul had to say though. He'd probably be my choice out of the two parties.

The Republicans will play the terror card until it happens again, like every American knows it will since they are bombarded by images of it everyday from around the world, and the politicians keep saying it is going to happen, and once it does happen they can say "told you so" and take their power back. And the democrats will be complicit in not offering the American people a real choice. They will once again be the party with no vision, but people vote for because they don't want "the other guy".
