Darkness stretched out for miles and miles, fires dotted the landscape far below like something out of a nightmare. We'd be jumping down there soon. Into swarms of German reinforcements, it was something you wished you didnt have to do, but knew it had to be done. My parachute was strapped tightly to my back, the straps around my body gave me a mild feeling of safety, anticipation and anxiety was on the faces of every man in the plane. Some guys I knew I wouldnt see again, that was a pain I had to put into the back of my mind. We'd all become close in the last 6 Months, going into battle with these guys was an honor and something I'd hold dear for the rest of my life. "1 MINUTE !!!" Screamed the CO. With that said, the guys started preparing themselves for their descent into hell. We buddy checked each other, making sure everything was strapped in tight and securely, there was no room for error in airborne operations. "30 SECONDS !!!" Again the screaming of the CO's voice was something I wish I didnt hear. I started to shake with fear, anxiousness, everything I had done in my life flashed before my eyes, I hoped I'd done some good, and I'd made a difference in this God foresaken war. The Red light came on. 10 seconds left until the familiar feeling of metal under my feet was replaced by the feeling of nothing. I said my prayers, not only for myself, but for every other man involved in this operation. I looked around, we all looked into each others eyes, saying our goodbyes and goodlucks. We all stood, hooked up and proceeded to the exit. The green light flashed on and one after another, hundreds of men were falling through the night sky toward, relative safety, broken bones, or a horrible death. The night sky had lit up with flashes from anti aircraft fire, planes were being hit all over the sky, I looked up too see the plane I had just jumped out of onfire, men still jumping out. I reached the ground soon after, got my parachute off, readied my weapon and proceeded to the meeting point. I just hoped when I get there, I'd be meeting my comrades and not the Germans. D Day had begun.

I think I'll continue this, make a short story out of it, just though it up then, tell me what you guys think.....

Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to War and my fingers to fight.
