Default A letter from Patrick Gilmore,regarding MP - 09-01-2007, 01:51 PM

I just received this via email and it looks very promising. While we are not getting a dedicated server out of the box, it looks like we should be getting it a couple weeks later. I agree, that EA needs to make sure everything is polished with the dedicated servers.

I know several people in the PC community are working hard to test the MP side of the game with EA, so with fingers crossed, mid September should keep us admins busy.

Hello everyone –

In a couple of days, Medal of Honor Airborne will be on store shelves. Judging from reactions to the demo, our air drop, weapon upgrades, and new approach to open layout are working together to produce a unique FPS experience, just as we’d hoped. I can’t tell you how exciting it is to get it into people’s hands.

I also want to bring you news about the dedicated servers.

During the Fort Bragg Community Summit, I said that we would be releasing dedicated servers at the launch of the game. We also received a lot of feedback regarding features you hoped for. A couple of weeks ago, I made the call to go deeper with features and customizations, to deliver as much as we could in our first drop to the community. I am happy to report that the dedicated server is complete; it’s working great, and we were able to include a huge number of options. However, it still has to finish its pass through test and CQC before we can release it, which means we will not be able to get it out in a day 1 patch. After digging into some of the issues with the patch team, I am expecting us to hit the week of September 17.

Throughout production, in the dialog between the community and team members, there has been a theme of “take the time to get it right.” I thought of that as we determined which options to include, and I’m psyched about the great list of modifications available. Here are the options admins will have at their disposal for setting up games:

- Game Name
- Game Type
- Welcome Message
- Private Game setup
- Rounds (Best of…)
- Round Time Limit
- Max Players
- Punkbuster
- Friendly Fire – On/Off
- Sniper Tracers – On/Off
- Weapon Upgrades – All On/All Off
- Disable Auto Rifle Class
- Disable Rifle Class
- Disable SMG Class
- Disable Sniper Rifle Class
- Disable Rocket Class
- Enable Ammo Drop
- Enable Health Drop
- Enable Weapon Drop
- Enable Voice Commands
- Spawning Invincibility Time
- Pre-Spawn Delay for Axis, Allies, Non-Airborne games
- Post Spawn Delay for Axis, Allies, Non-Airborne games
- Show Compass
- Show Crosshairs
- Show Enemy Compass Dots
- Show Enemy Names
- Show Friendly Compass Dots
- Show Friendly Names
- Show Grenade Indicators
- Show Health Bar
- Show Hit Indicators
- Show HUD
- Show Score and Time
- Show Stance Indicator
- Show Text
- Show Who Killed Me (camera move)
- Time to Show Who Killed Me
- Wait Time Between Rounds
- Wait Time Between Matches
- Map Rotation Setup

Beyond day one, I am happy to report we are already in action on plans for future title updates and launch support, as well as the release of additional content, weapons, maps and game modes. As always, your feedback and requests to BlackHat are a critical part of our ongoing work on Airborne!

Thanks, everyone, for your support of Medal of Honor Airborne, and for your patience while we work to get information out to you. While we’re getting all of these options tested and ready for release, we hope that you’ll enjoy the experience we’ve crafted in the game. We think it’s the best in the Medal of Honor series.

PG

Hmm no option to enable or disable a shotgun class. (cue wintersforge screaming in the distance) eek:

Aside from that looks pretty good.

OK, I complain and get blacklisted from testing the MP side of the game....

Now it looks like the game will not have Ded. server out of the box (which is 90% of my complaint and why I voiced my opinions on FPSadmin.

PMOH goes there, gets another hands on and states we will have 16 player Dedicated servers out of the box - which is wrong.

Now it looks like we only get a 12 player Listening server (xbox version for the PC) out of the box....

From blackhat over at TA
[quote:ee7a1]Regarding the number of players - we're still consistently working on it, but we can't release anything until it's all working and updated. For example, in addition to simply allowing more players in, we need to adjust any score, team, and stat screens to accommodate more players. Once all that's done, and we test it, then we can release things to more players. Be assured, though, that it IS something we're actively pursuing. We know you guys want more, and we want to give it to you.

All that said, give it a go first the way it is now. You might be surprised. We have plenty of fun around here playing with the current settings.[/quote:ee7a1]

Wow, and I'm called a whiner for not believing in EA this time around......

So no dedicated out of the box, which means EA will invoke the standard game developer "coming soon" rhetoric which can mean from now to eternity. mad:

if they get it out a week or two after launch its not too bad but anything longer will get frustrating.

What id love to know about the game in general is why does it install an ageia physx driver? Ive read people have ageia cards and tried this demo and see no difference to what we see, my only real complaint about SP is the world is very static. Nothing really is destructable besides objectives, i would have though physx brings in an element of destructable items but apparently not. eek:

I think that has more to do with the engine then the game.

Maybe EA did not know it was in there or it's for future use?????

Yeah might be the engine, unreal tournament 3 supports physx in some levels, Then again for airborne im glad they went with gameplay over gimmicky physics features, they went all out for physics in PA and we all know how that turned out.

These tech vids always crack me up about pacific assault

http://www.gametrailers.com/game/723.html

tech video 3 in paticular where they proclaim "this technology will allow the player to roam within the natural landscape while not being restrained to predetermined directions".

LOL seriously wtf happened? Some of the tech vids actually looked good.

There was a rumour a while ago after they released the tech vids and started making the game they realised how hard it would be to let players go anywhere and had to strip mosta the new shit out and make it a bog standard corridor shooter. Wonder what the real story was there.

I am glad to see they are somewhat listening to the community, but the fact that they aren't releasing the game with a dedicated server, as in it wasn't originally planned......... is just downright stupid. What were they thinking making a Medal of Honor FPS without dedicated server support?

I don't know about you guys but I am sick and tired of developers not paying enough attention to the MP aspect of the game and worrying way too much about care bear single player....

All in all, this is EA, can't expect much more I guess oOo:

Yup, for all their bs about listening to the community it amazes me that a dedicated server (which was asked for way back in 2006) was one of the last things they started to work on. Theres one on the way though, just thought it would have been ready for launch day.

Yeah, I just don't understand why they even considered not including one in the first place.
