Default !!!!!!!!!!!!THUNDER II map UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 09-29-2002, 02:29 AM

Well, well, well
what do we have here..
Ah.. A new map soon to be released.
Oh.. but wait fokes.. The name of the map has changed
The map will no longer carry the THUNDER name.
Sorry, but thats just how it is..
The new map name is
"Eye of the Needle"
And I have some goodie screenshots for you all..
I have 7 posted up on my site.
But first.. heres a taste of what the maps design is layed to be.
Allied and Axis sides are seperated by a bridge.
You all wanted more bridge maps.. well you got it.
We have rain, we have slight fog.
Splashing waves.. and the cool part........
A light house to set the backdrop of the map.
The Axis base includes 4 bunkers, trenches that surround the lighthouse. and 2 positioned MG42's. and some destroyed buildings of course.
Allied side in destroyed town with.. get this.. Foxholes!!
also included are some MG42's.
The bridge has a halfway point arch with roof access.
The first of the series released will be the Team Death Match version.
After which will come Objective, and Push.
And once i get scripting correct. A single player version. But the maps size will have increased give people more bang for the buck.
Map is currently about 80% complete. Allied side needs it finishing layout. and then final triming and obsticals will be placed.
Without further delay.
Heres a link to the Screens.
Enjoy

that bridge looks to be a very big chokepoint that would turn this into yet another sniper map.

my name is racer. i am from the 7th ranger battalion. and play alot in the 8th marines server.

the 8th marines and 7rb (7th ranger battalion) have a different style of play then all else.

we use "tactics" in multiplayer. and alot of teamwork..
ex: working in teams of 2 covering each others butt's and moveing/ambushing (known as the c word to ideot run n gunners as camping) your map intreg's me! the thunders where very well done, and i look forward to this map as well. EXPECIALLY the rain, thier are not very many rainy maps with sucks cuz weather effects are great. fogs cool too, but its used to much as a primary effect in maps. thiers only 3 diff weather effected mapd i know of now, lol..

anyways i just wanted to post and tell you your work looks great, and i cant wait to sneak up on some kraut fool with my m1 garand and pop him one in the back M16:

GOOD WORK!!!!

Regards: Lt.Col.Racer 7th Ranger Battalion, a sister clan of the 8th Marines

Cool.
Glad you are intrested in it.
Yes this map is definity set up for team work.
The objective version which is slightly differant. Will take a lot of thinking.
you cant just rush up on this map.
Well anyway
The BETA version mapping is complete.
Compile will be overnight. File scripting and opening screen will be finished tomorrow night. (hopefully)
Basiclly I want to see how the map plays.
The design is not set in stone. Changes can be made according to feedback.
FPS is little hard if you have a slower machine.
Map runs extremly smooth on my machine.
But for those with less horsepower. Map may suffer.
I am doing everything i know possiable to help reduce any frame rate problems.
Ill send off the map to dodd as soon as its complete.
Hope you all will enjoy it.

P.S. please.. feedback! more the better!!

Seeing as how your thunder maps were rungsi fog helps frame rate. My machine is not even a year old but my video card which is a gf2mx400 is a bit old. I love fog that will help framerate right? I cant wait to test your map bro im dying to see what it looks like more then the screenshots. Also with a gf2mx400 am i going to see my FPS in the red? Id like to stay over 20 fps that way i can still move.

Rungsi, what push mode are u using.. hopefully its the one where u need to capture all flags to win, because its the best way to represent territorial control.

Yes. adding fog helps fps.
Still this map is pretty big.
The main factor is its tall. Axis side runs smooth. just the allied side in spawn is little sticky.
But once you start crossing the bridge it clears up nice.
The obj version most all of the allied side will be removed. The allies will spawn right at the start of the bridge.
The added rain doesnt help. Rain causes on my machine a 10 fps drop.

Yes the push that will be added is with the flags.
With the beta test I can see how each side works and where people like to play and those locations.
So I can give the maps flag layout best locations.

I had little problem witht the compile. Vis size was still to large after trying to tweak it more. so I did some more work.
So looks we are delayed a day.
Ill know more tonight on what the release time should be.

Well the compile came out like crap.
so.. I am going to make just some small needed corrections.
I think i have it pinned down on why it came out so bad.
I am going to try and finish up on it tomorrow night and do a compile.
Once its finished Ill send you a link to the download so you can check it out first hand.
If we all feel its workable. the BETA will be released to dodd so he can post it.

we goofed around alittle in the map. but the FPS is just not acceptable in my eyes.

Maybe the water is casuing the fps to be so low? I noticed on some maps with fog my fps are high. I hope you can get it to work because id love to test this bad boy.
