I think it's just the idea that the general public gets tired of trying to make their rigs better just so they can play "this new game x" that comes out. Whereas the console people buy the console and wait two/three/four years until they even have to think about "Will this game play smoothly? Do I have to dish out more money so I can play my favorite game series that's coming out next month? etc."

It's a lot about public perception.
The public perception area is the main point where pc gaming is let down. A good example would be pc game advertising, i dunno how it is over there but over here ive seen maybe 3 PC games advertised in about 10 years, those being MOHAA, World of Warcraft and i think i might have seen a Crysis advert. You get multiformat games advertised and it might say available on pc\ps3\xbox 360 but when it comes to pc only games the avertising on tv seems to be nonexistant.
When it comes to gaming though AMD are making progress to ensure integrated video can play games and have them looking good and playing good, Intel are also making progress with their new integrated video which means a store bougt pc can play games properly out of the box, maybe not at max settings but it wont be a 1fps wonder or just flat out refuse to run. So mainstream pc's will be able to run games far better and get more people playing.
This vids a good example of the way AMD are going, compares their integrated video to intel current integrated video.
This is also something AMD are introducing to make the public more aware of gaming on pc's and the fact that its getting cheaper while maintaing good visual quality.
I think the big advantage of consoles over pc's is cost. PC's you have to constantly upgrade. You can buy a 1200 dollar computer one month, 6 months later you'll have to upgrade it. Consoles you buy once every 3-5 years. Most of us here started out as PC gamers, but the wave is consoles.

If people are uninformed enough that may be the case, its always best to check around online and not trust the chimps in the store as to how much the hardware is upto. No reason why a pc shouldn't last 3 or 4 years with no upgrades, you may have to eventually turn down some settings but if the game can be played thats the main point.

regardless if you shop around and get the bits cheaper you still are limited by your hardware and the effort of trading/buying new bits is simply a disadvantage as to not having to do shit to my console other than buying games for it. you then have to realize the percentage of people that dont upgrade their pcs/laptops is huge, so buying a new pc/laptop every 2 years to play a handful of games is not viable.
its just nice to have the only thing i have to worry about being what game i want to buy, rather than worrying about my system before i have even thought about the games.
The product is not worth the price when it comes to PCs.
you can't say that because it depends on what you want. if you want to play games, ok buy an fps. if you want to browse the internet, have a proper multimedia station, use photoshop, use a calculator, make music, have a million gigs of porn, etc. then how is the product not worth the price? i will gladly pay $1,000 to have a machine that does all these things and so much more. you're wrong.

On console it is easier to do it wrong...but when it is right...there is no reason to play PC FPS games over consoles...it's pretty much same shit almost.
how you can say they are the same shit is beyond me. mouse vs. joystick + autoaim? yeah, that's different shit. you're wrong.

anyone that takes fps gaming seriously. so quite a few. so you're wrong.

as gerv said, no one has to pay "thousands of dollars", a simple graphics card update here and there is all you need.
plays all games at top quality, but that quality will never exceed the console. graphics on pc games can grow as the pc grows; rather than waiting 4 years for the next console to come out. so you're pretty much wrong here.

best choice for who? it's subjective. i like to play an fps properly, in which i have full control over my aim and range of control. i also enjoy having the ability to change graphic options. i enjoy being able to mod games. so you're wrong here again.

again, you just said you can't prove pc's are a better choice compared to consoles; but you can say consoles are the better choice to pc's? how does that fucking work?
you are both a hypocrite; and insanely wrong. it boggles my mind, i knew you were stupid to begin with but god damn. it seems as you've grown older you've gotten worse. even that doesn't make any sense.
Gabe Newells take on pc gaming, some of the highlights:
Quote:
According to Gartner Group data, there are over 260 million online PC gamers, with 255 million new PCs being sold in 2007. Steam alone has 15 million connected gamers, with 1.25 million peak connected gamers, and 191% year-over-year growth; Valve was quick to point out that Steam represents just one of many online distribution systems.
Quote:
"This is a market that dwarfs the size of any of the proprietary closed platforms," Newell said. He noted that the vast difference in scale between PC and console platforms means that PC continues to be the platform with the most capital investment, allowing it to drive the innovation and technology development that eventually trickles down to consoles.
Quote:
Newell then returned to his "perception problem" angle. "We don't really have a champion of the PC platform. If you write a story about the Xbox 360, there's just an army of people who are going to descend on you to make that picture look as polished and rosy as possible. Same things for the other consoles - but there's no equivalent on the PC, and the people who are traditionally driving these messages, like Microsoft or Intel or Apple are, for various reasons, not very effective champions."

console FPS sucks since I can't use those analog controls at all, its nauseating when in first person (i can't play Halo or RE4 for more than 2 hours w/o getting sick)
