Default Map newb questions - 10-02-2002, 04:57 PM

Buncha questions here.

First, how do I make angles other than 90 degrees, such as a right triangle.
Along the same lines, I'm wondering what the best way is to make stairs, other than grouping seperate 8x8x64 blocks together.

Some tutorials I've read advise against using CSG subtract to make holes for windows/doors/etc. What other methods are there, or should I just make my wall out of seperate brushes ahead of time to include spaces for walls/doors.

Is there a way to bind brushes together into one brush?

Thanks in advance for any replies/info.

More questions to come later biggrin:

ok well in the 5 minutes since posting, I've discovered clip mode.

Problem is, I know how to add the clipping points but not how to apply it.

*edit*
and in another 5 minutes I figured out I need to hit "enter" to apply the clip.

Still looking for answers to the others, especially binding brushes together.

Stay away from CSG - It can lead to major problems with your map - Just build around the holes ahead of time - it may seem slightly slower but it will save u a whole lotta hassle in the long run

Thanks, Surgeon.

Another question I wanted to ask, is how do I select only one side of a brush for a texture instead of all sides?

use the 3D preview window on the right..... navigate around and use CTRL-SHIFT-RCLICK.

as for clipping corners of brushes if it is a simple line i prefer to manipulate the brush using the "E" key (whatever its called. you can simply drag one corner of a square into the centre to make a triangle.
