Default Upham is a moron - 10-03-2002, 02:31 PM

Is it just me, or was Upham a moron, i mean, he had so many chances to save Melish's life, its not even funny. Also, who got the money from the Cpt. Miller pool?? Because Upham and Rieben were still alive after all that. I'm sure all you SPR fans will know what i'm talking about.

If thats what your thinking after watching the movie I think you missed the point.

I'd really like to see you kill another human, and I don't think the pot of money really matters.

moron? no. upham was fluent in german and french, and made maps. so i wouldnt call him a moron. cowardly, maybe. the more i watch spr the more i realize the complexity and the atrocity of war. remember, this mission was upham's first real experience of combat ....ever. a soldier like him is intended to be in the rear with the gear, out of harms way. he hadnt fired a weapon since basic, he had no combat experience and was scared out of his wits. when i first saw spr for the first few times, i was very angry at upham's character. however, try to put yourself in his position, the man is not a fighter or gung-ho killers like the other men. he was frozen with fear, and couldnt move, ultimately, he knows he cost another mans life--and he will have to live with that nightmare for the rest of his movie characters life.....hehe
i had to add something: ninty9 is right, who knows how you would react in uphams position....some would not think twice and go and help mellish, others would be a coward like upham, and others--would say they would help him, but when it really happened in combat with bullets wizzing by, they would probably leave him there too

btw good first post, at least its about something interesting.

I'm sure there was more than one guy in WWII like Upham.

I can only imagine what war does to one's psychology. I have a feeling that if I were in the same situation, I'd freeze like that too, being the cowardly bitch I am.

Watch the movie then....

Upham was a coward, not a moron. How about we place you in the same situation and see how you do...??
