Default "Day of Days" Mappers wanted! - 10-06-2002, 06:33 PM

Last night...

I was watching band of brothers Part 2 "Day of Days" And when I got to the part where they have to disable the cannons fireing onto the beaches I thought, "Hey that would be cool to make a replica of this battle and turn it into an objective map!... too bad somebody hasnt already done it, damn.." I dont know what I was thinking at the time to make me froget I am a Mapper but a couple mins later I broke out the Pad of paper and started listing ideas based on B.O.B. These are the ideas that I came up with:

- map starts at farm where they regroup (HQ)
- long hedgerows
- garden/farm (the garden/farm that they walk through b4 combat)
- 2 or 3 objectives To Disable the cannons firing on the beaches and find the map that shows "every gun in Normandy"
- Trenches
- MG pits

--- I havent started on it --

I have the mapping skills to do this but I would like it more that if somebody could "comap" with me. I know this a big task but I am in no rush whatsoever as of this time I am COMMITED to this map! The person must meet these specifications

- experenced mapper
- use this forum
- has MSN or Yahoo messanger
- is willing to scrafice time twards map
- HAS PART 2 OF B.O.B
- has a copertave attitude
- COMMITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DONT WANT ANYBODY BAILING ON ME!

If we stick together I think we could actually pull this off!

If anybody has ideas/suggestions or sounds interested PLEASE tell me

Well im off to study B.O.B for the 6th time LOL

I had the same thoughts too,its one of 3 maps I had in mind.
I have started one of the others, you can see the results so far about half way through on the Pointe Du Hoc thread here.
My experience is not that great though only the 6 months with MOH.
The rest of the things you mention are fine.
I would want to see some example of your work though if you were interested.
I too tend to be on TMT more...its more friendly and leading edge LOL with Scorpio there, and great adivice from the likes of Balr14.
Good luck otherwise. swordfight:

Just to let you guys know a map of this has already been started and is pretty much complete... it is for our mod... the Band of Brothers Mod... the map is called Brecourt Manor since that was the location of the 4 105mm guns firing on Utah beach as seen in Episode 2... This map will be released with our demo sometime in the next few weeks...

Nice Sceenshots, looks like it's going to become a very nice map.
I would quite happly help, problem is that I haven't had much time to research about maps, and learn about it, but when I learn it's going to bee very good.

Yeah the map above isn't the "Day of Days" map that T.Hunter is planning on doing... it is based on the same thing however it was done by two of the BoB Dev Team Members, Diggler & Pac...

Shit...

Froget it...Its my Bad that I didnt sniff around more to see if anybody has done it which is 100% my fault. Instead of being compititon to the BOB Mod/Team ill just let them be and encourage them to go farther. Besides my map would prolly look like crap compared to urs. Nice screenies and I cant wait to play it! Hmm... what other maps havent been made? LOL

- WOOF i dont know what I was thinking at the time when I offered you help on PDH but now that I think of it, its not such a good idea. I think I'd be more harm than help lol

- Hey BOB Team is there any maps you arent doing?

PS wasnt there 88s instead of 105mms? Cuz I really dont remember seeing a 105 with wheels in BOB... I may be wrong but who knows...

So bummed out hake:

No worries, I forgot the Band Of Brothers MOd was the reason I abdandoned the idea of doing a Brecourt Manor Map.
I actually worked on BOB for 4 days, met Tom and the actor who played Winters. Had a god long wander around Leavensden and al the sets.

If Band Of Brother Mod ever need a mapper let me know if you like whatyou see of my Point Du Hoc map.

As I said my end object is rather like Brecourt Manor anyhow, 3 guns in trench positions but in an orchard rather than open ground.

Thanks for the write up Cobolt :-)

They were 105mm not 88's they were assumed 88's in the TV series when the preassault plan was discussed but Winters reported 105mm on returning and they were seen to be in the actual action in the TV series as 105's.
88 are very distinctive if you watch the episode they are not 88's but 105mm.

More Screens of Brecourt Manor... note that the 88's are just place holders for the 105mm till we can get a model of one into the game... And we could use some mappers cause were working on Foy, Carentan, and Nuenen right now...

just a suggestion- couldnt you model a 105 in radiant and get it to blow up like you would a building, with an explodersmashed, or do the explodermashed brushes show up in game?

Nice screens I was wondering how did u get those trenches to "bend" because it looks like 1 whole brush, did u CSG it? or sumthin else? And Ive sucessfully tried to make the camo netting look draped and bent using patch mesh but, the part I dont get is how to attach the bottom side of it only 1 side is the netting..

thanks chop:

Default nice screen shots - 10-08-2002, 09:45 PM

Hehe you even used the same car static as I did! Add some tress and its just like mine. I used a 105 and added some wheels and intended to make it as you said explodable.
The netting is easy, copy the top side using 1 unit grid invert the new mesh realign the 1 grid copying shift and there you go!

I would love to map on a real project I will try to email you Ghost.
