Default please help...FPS and game performance - 10-14-2002, 12:24 PM

hey guys, thanks for any help on this issue. just wondering, what is the relation between frames per second and overall game performance. i understand the ping rate. are they related?? does a low FPS put you at a disadvantage. mine drops very low, 15-30 on certain maps, etc. i've been told to lower resolution, model detail, ect. but i hate playing on the lower settings. clarify for me please!!!

If your FPS drops low enough it's like having an incredibly high ping, you start to lag. Well, sorta. What's actually happening is your computer is trying really hard to keep up the calculations it needs to make for every sprite on the screen, and this includes those being transmitted by the server. Whereas a high ping just means that you're not transmitting the data back and forth to the server fast enough. In either case you're likely to lose enough data to make it very hard to play effectively.

The best thing anyone can do is first run Auto-Config. This will analyze your PC from MOH, and will determine what settings are best for you.

Obviously, the higher the FPS, the better. For a generally smooth game, you want to have at least 40FPS. Some maps you will drop drastically, like Omaha beach. But generally, you want 40FPS or so.
