Default Is ebay usually reliable? - 10-16-2002, 01:53 PM

I'm planning on buying an item from ebay for the first time, and I'd be very happy if anyone could comment on it and if it's worth the hassle. The item I want to buy is about £50 cheaper than if I bought it ina shop, so that's why I really want to buy it.
Any comments please

I bought my first thing from there over the summer. I had no problems. Check to make sure the person you are buying from has a good reputation and if they do then you shouldn't haev any problems.

But always remember there are a lot of idiots out there. Just beware of the danger and things should be fine.

Make sure you read the fine print, especially the shipping costs. Also check the sellers ratings very carfully.

There is good and bad to be had on ebay.

Go back and look at the shipping. It is always included. Some charge actual shipping costs. Some charge 20 times the going rate. I ahve a very overpriced set of speakers/sub sitting on my second pc that remind me to read the small print on ebay when I buy stuff. I had to laugh when I opened the box. I got exactly what the seller said I would, but not what I expected. Lesson learned. The seller very well might be legit, just dont take any unnecessary chances.

A useful tip to look for is spelling and grammar. seriously. who are you more likely to want to buy from:

Seller A:
Mobile phone, many accessories.

Seller B:
Mobile fone 4 sale. lotz of partz.

yes thats just a generalisation, but its handy to think about.

A funny story - a buddy won something off guaranteed for "green light power up". When he got it and plugged it in, the green light came on. That was all it did. The seller had fulfilled his obligation. An expensive lesson learned. I still give him hell about that. hehe.

I haven't, or don't know anyone who, has had troubles with Ebay. I know there are problems, and people who cheat ya outta your crap, but I'm yet to encounter anyone who has.

You know what? Don't worry about it. It will be fine. Sure there are some people out there that rip people off, but that will always be there. To make sure you get what you want, do this...be sure to ask for many pictures, ask questions, be sure he/she has a good rep as was stated above, and finally, be sure to add shipping before you pay so you don't end up winning the auction with a price lower than what it would cost in stores but will get jacked up after shipping...did that lst one sound right? eek:

he looks like he's got a pretty good reputation, and I have to pay shipping costs but I'll find out how much they are, I'm sure they won't be about £60.

that's what it is, you should see my bid, there's a link there with his reputation

You shouldn't have a problem. The seller has 319 positive responses and no negative.
