I'm gettin ready to get a new PC and I'd love to build my own but I just know I'd screw it up. <sigh> Oh yeah, I could learn how to do it, I've done basic stuff like replacing HD's and adding RAM and PCI cards , etc. but between my job and playing MOH who's got the time to learn let alone do the job. biggrin: I was looking at the Alienware's at Comp USA a few weeks ago and they are really nice machines but a bit more than I want to spend , I'll probably end up with another Gateway or maybe a Dell this time , at least they let you customize them to a certain degree. I don't need to get a monitor right away as the 19" CRT I'm using still works fine. There are a couple of guys who own a computer shop down the road, they've been there for several years so they must be doing something right , a friend of mine had them build a couple of PC's and he was happy with them. Maybe I'll give them some spec's and see what they can do for me.

The guy down the street might give you a really good price. but remember he will use OEM parts. Try and get the Motherboard, CPU and video card as retail items.

don't get anything , dell, gateway or the guy down the street with built on motherboard components ( sound, video ) while there ok I would advise against it.

Good Luck

Oh yeah , I would specify a GF ti 4600 128 ram in a AGC slot and a SB sound card in a PCI slot. You can also get that from Gateway and Dell although the best vid card Dell has at the moment is an ATI 9700 and I'd like to stick to Nivadia (whatever biggrin: ) which Gateway has and they do put them in a AGC slot. I think the guys down the road will do whatever you want them too but I don't know if it will be any cheaper than the others. Thing is , they will only use Intel processors and I've been using AMD's without any trouble but maybe it's time to try a P4. Yeah, I would never buy integrated vid and sound, okay for some things but not high end games.
Thanks for the heads up Rude , I'll be sure the PC will be suitable for just about any game that comes out, in the near future anyways. biggrin:
