There is no reflections in those shots. Q3 engine doesn't support that. There is a layer of mist that moves over the surface of the water.

i think it just makes the water look brackish and muddy
i love this map man, you should put like some destroyed tanks or jeeps stuck in the mud or somthing
even cooler, you could put bodies, partially submerged with like legs and arms coming out of the water! that would be cool

Hey Balr........are my eyes deceiving me, or do I see LOD Terrain in that swamp? If not, your brushwork is improving exponentially!

I loved that map in HiTP.....good job. beer:

The jungle looks promising...I want to see that with a light compile.

YOU MUST BE KIDDING! If I was using LOD terrain, I'd be getting those framerates with nothing else in the map. I can make a brush terrain do things you can only dream about with LOD. It all depends on how much framerate I have to work with.

I scrapped the jungle map because I didn't like it. Too open. I saved the bamboo trees though. I'm working on a new one that is a REAL jungle. I'm not sure if I can top "The Swamp" (images don't do it justice), but I'm sure going to try.

That would be cool, but I'm not sure how to do that.

HA! Then your triangles are getting smaller.....very nice Balr, very nice.

But, if I can dream it, I can do it. cool: (Mostly)

I enjoy working with LOD....and have gotten pretty good at balancing it for FPS considerations also...but I also believe I want to try your method.

We shall see what the future brings.

eh even if there arent any soldiers in it, i cant wait for release to give this one a try

Yes, the triangles are smaller. Like I said, it all depends on how much framerate I have to work with. Big, open maps with lots of foliage usually mean bigger triangles, but I cheated and made everything below the water line caulk, because you can't see through the water. So, what's left is only 1400 brushes (since they are triangles, 1400 faces). Leaves me lots of face count left to build foliage.

Wait until you see the remake of the VietNam Jungle. It has 4700 triangle brushes, and the framerate (with just the terrain) is 180 fps minimum. Just the terrain in the Swamp tested at 130 fps.

I hope it reminds people of VietNam... I used images from Indo-China (that was the old name) to model it after.

Water is only knee deep. You can still run and jump. Doesn't slow you down.

Just a curiosity...is that while you look down at it, also?
Terrain alone is not really a good testing method, since there is absolutely nothing above the horizon to draw.
I don;t doubt...believe me, not one solitary doubt...I am just curious to know the change between looking across the terrain and at it. angel:

That's looking from any vantage point you care to use. Using the terrain FPS as a starting point works well for me. If it's under 100, I know I'm going to have a tough time getting everything else into the map. The jungle terrain had to be really high because of the amount of foliage I'm adding.
