It was Malkovich's brake out role. The play was a good read..but the movie just took it to a higher level. Hoffman perfected the role itself. He must have done quite a lot of work for it.

we read it in my honors english class, then we watched the movie, then after the movie we watched the making of the movie, they show them all backstage, redoing scenes, interviews with the actors. good stuff. excellent acting.
