Support Help needed: Game settings not saving! -
10-12-2002, 08:10 PM
Hello,
I just reinstalled MoH:AA after reformatting my hard drive. For some reason, it won't save the game detail settings - after I leave the game and restart, they are back to default.
The odd thing is, certain things are saved - key binds, the speakers set to headphones, etc. But things like resolution and level of video and sound detail are always back to the defaults when I start the game.
Any hep is appreciated. For what it's worth, I have an Athlon XP1800 processor, 512MB PC2100 DDR, 40GB 7200rpm HD, SB Live Platinum running the latest certified drivers, and a Ti4600 running 40.72 drivers. The BIOS and motherboard drivers are up to date. It used to work just fine for me before the reformat - I have no idea why this should be happening.

Still no improvement.
I've uninstalled the 40.72 drivers and used the MS-certified 30.87 video drivers, nothing changes in regards to this issue.
It's odd that certain things have been saved - connection rate, player name, chosen skins, headphones, key binds, brightness... but resolution and level of detail settings for video and sound have not saved. I ran the configure.exe and that seems to be the default settings.
I have even tried using a backup config that I was using successfully with the old system. No improvement :(
Please, someone help me. I can't stand the way the game currently looks - I don't know how anyone can play at the system recommended settings, but this game should (and has!) run like a dream - it did before the reformat.

I'm still trying to come up with some answers HeadHunter. Sorry for the delay, but you have tried everything I could think of right now.
Looking at some of the files to see if you can force the settings to "stick"

OK, the only thing I can come up with is a Video card driver setting. Have you uninstalled your vid drivers. Using the uninstall found at -
http://www.guru3d.com/files/
Also have you done anything with the video card itself? over clocking adjusting the settings. using a refresh fix.
If so set these all back to default and see what happens. Could also be just a bad install. Check out Bazooka_joe's uninstall guide located at
http://mohaa.exe/joe/installguide.htm
Hope this helps. I wish I could be more helpful but this is a tricky one.
Good luck

When I reformatted my machine, the first two or three times I changed my graphics settings, it didn't keep them applied. I had to run Auto-Config, then finally, After a few times, they just stuck. Stupid, but just make sure you're hitting Apply after you change them each time.

Thanks for the help - we'll need to keep plugging away at it.
As I mentioned, I uninstalled the video drivers and went back to the 30.87 drivers, and it didn't improve the problem. Video card is at default settings - no overclocking, no refresh rate fix (in fact, none was needed with the 40.72 as they have built-in refresh rate support, though I didn't need to enable it). I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game two or three times now, no change.
I'd like to check out the uninstall guide, but the link isn't working.
Again, I appreciate the help - I'll keep plugging away at this end, if there is anything else you can suggest please let me know!

Well, that seems to have done the trick - I was applying changes each time, but it just took several times to get it to work. Inexplicable problem with unexpected and unknown solution... oOo:
But all that matters is it seems to be working fine now. Thanks to both of you for the help - I'll let you know if it re-occurs.

Got to love EA.
Good luck with the game HH. Hopefully it does not happen again.

It happened for a while after I installed Spearhead as well. Let's hope that doesn't keep up...
