Ded Server Question -
11-06-2002, 04:38 PM
I'm hosting a Lan party for about 9-13 people. I've installed the 1.11 patch and configured the server to my liking. I am worried about hardware. The machine in question is a k6-2 400 with 384 MB ram. I have'nt been able to baseline the performance with more than 3 people connected and playing. With 3 on, it's very smooth. Do you think it will hold up for 10?? It looks like a ded server is more memory intensive than CPU, or at least I'm hoping. Thanks in Advance.

Ack! A K6-2 400mhz?! Egad! D00d! I'm suprised you can boot!
Honestly, good luck with your party, but I don't see happy faces coming out of this gaming bash. Sorry, but like I said, good luck!

It boot just fine with windows 2000 server!! I was really looking for other people's experiences with dedicated servers. I've found that most server performance issues come from bandwidth. Since we are on a Lan it's a non-issue. Anyone else been or hosted a Lan party with a dedicated server? Our last few parties we had no server, one person would just host the game. We had 9 people playing that way smooth as silk. Thanks for the responses.

Make sure you run it as a dedicated server. And like ¤ said, shut down EVERYTHING not needed.
This also goes for any service you do not need. Shut down all the SNMP stuff and anything else not needed to run MOH and connect to the outside world
Good luck at your Lan Party.

JIMMY'S MOM: "How was your little computer party, dear?"
JIMMY (Who's 36): "Great mom! We had a great time! But. . . "
JIMMY's MOM: "But what, honey?"
JIMMY: "Well, we had fun, until we all joined Dobolina's game, and his PC started to smoke! I think it was because his PC was outdated. So, he just sat in the corner and cried, while we all continued our game."
JIMMY'S MOM: "Um-huh. . That's nice, dear."

1.The computer in question is my old one and will run standalone.
2.Unlike some, I don't have gobbs of extra cash for a nice dualie system.
3.Eff you Joe, I can tell by your sig you're a real a-hole. Piss Off, nerd.
Thanks everyone else for all the VALID help.

I was never making fun of you, just commenting on your old machine. Yeesh, a K6 400mhz on MOH is scary. If you have gobbs of cash to get a "Dualie" system, then get one!
PS: I'm afraid to ask who makes up the "Rainbow Gang", heh
Lighten up, bro!
