Default What Blows My Mind re SpearHead - 11-24-2002, 10:27 PM

What do you expect from an add-on in terms of performance?

Improvement, right? Isn't that reasonable?

What is mind boggeling about Spearhead is that it DECREASES improvement!

Forget about complaints re content, just think about this: the net code, you expect, would be better. The frame rate would be better. Player movement would be smoother. BUT IT IS NOT - IT IS ALL WORSE!

In Spearhead the expectations are refuted. I have problems with Spearhead I never had with MOH (not to mention Unreal 3 or NOLF2)

I have horrible frame rate drops. Movement is weird, as in going down ladders - this was never a problem in MOH, but in Spearead I often simply fall off the ladder.

And what is the deal with starting on roofs or platforms from which there is no descent without falling and suffering damage? I mean, why spawn on a spot gauranteed to give you a 14 point hit point damage?

And what about people disappearing into walls? That NEVER happened in MOH!

And what about running next to a player on your team, and you mesh, and you can't tell who is who? Or getting close to an enemy and he disappears, you can't tell if he is above or below you or where he went? This never happend in MOH, or UT3, or Quake 3.

Something has been radically changed. It feels different too, just like Unreal feels different from Quake, Spearhead feels different from MOH.

What a shame, cause this was the game that was setting the new trend...

Alot of people have suffered performance descreases in Spearhead. I, fortuneatly, wasn't one of them. Yes, the game does bug & glitch for me still, and SOME maps drop my frames, but not to the point where the game is not playable.

My suggestion for people playing it with either Windows XP or Windows 2000 is to delete Service Pack 1 (For XP) or Service Pack 3 (For Win2000) to increase performance in gaming. It has been proven my Microsoft that these service packs include an .DLL Video Driver file that can DRAMATICALLY decrease gameplay. I only suggest you delete it if MOH is unplayable or less than 5FPS. You can do this by going to your Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, then scroll down to "Windows" and search for the Service Pack.

Some people think that deleting the SP is exceptionally bad for your system, but it isn't. As long as you have the proper Critical Updates for your OS, your computer is as safe as having the SP. Remember, please only delete this if you know what you are doing. I don't want to be held responceable for any other of your apps not working. biggrin:

I got on a spearhead server online for the first time Saturday night. I had
a blast, thought the first 2 hours we were playing the original 4 maps from MOH:AA. Eventually enough people participated ina vote to move us to the Berlin map. I played through the first half of the time allotment with no problems at all. Then suddenly my frame rate dropped to 7fps, which made the game unplayable. I died and started at the spawn point. I was playing the Axis side, and was fine until I got to the opening out of the Axis spawn area. I run windows 2000 SP3 (Saw the above post on SP3), 512MB PC800 Rambus, P41.7GHz, U160 10kRPM SCSI hard drive, and GeForce4 Ti 4200 w/ 128MB RAM. I ran fine for the rest of the Spearhead maps, except for one other one, which I am not sure which one it was, but I had a 7fps problem again. Things I noticed about spearhead:

1. V2 map, the metal catwalks outside tended to flicker, which they never did with the same setup on MOH:AA.
2. Besides most of the maps being user submitted, 2 of them were single player maps from MOH:AA converted to mulitplayer.
3. An advertisement for BF1942's first expansion pack already on the way in early 2003. (Back of CD Case)
4. After 1 hour of play I was already 1/3 of the way through single player.
5. I cant hold an active grenade and open a door anymore...blew myself up on the bridge map a few times trying to.
6. Not sure if it was a server mod since I have only played one online server for spearhead, but the stg44 only had 70 rounds plus a full clip...which got eaten up fast.
7. I miss the KAR98 sniper rifle from MOH:AA
8. I like bashing with regular weapons as well as the pistol
9. I like that breaking windows now removes the pane frames as well

Deleting service pack 1 is a bad, bad idea... you're familiar with the security issue pack 1 addresses right? It's not just a "critical update" you need to fix this...

I don't want to sound like a bighead MS wanker but all the W2K/XP SP's are all coded to be uninstallable and as long as you check the MS Technet Site for any special problems or issues, then you should have no problem uninstalling it!

Uhhhh....I havent seen ANY of this. If you have a card that cant support the performance you are trying to get - whos fault is that. Honestly, SH has less lag than MOH for me. Granted I have a Ti 4600, but cmon folks, this isnt "across the board" issues that are coming up, they are system specefic.

And if you are referring to Berlin where you spawn "high above", you ARE able to jump down without losing any health.

As for the person complaining that they can no longer hold a "live" grenade indefinitely....uhhhhhhh...... oOo:

Hey "Coalition to Save Ed"

I too have a Geforce Ti 4600.

I don't have any performance problems in Unreal 3, Nolf 2, SOF2, etc.

And re jumping down from spawn points - what about the airport map, you know, where you have to control hangers and runway lights - IS there a way to get down off the metal ramp in the warehouse on the Axis start?

As long as it dosen't come standard on a system, meaning you had to download it to install it, it is safe to delete. And yes, the critical updates WILL patch what is in the SP. I've confirmed this with TechNet.

Yeah well..the fps is bad bad bad..not on the old mohaa maps though. Still get very high fps on the oldies.

Net_code seems even more crappy now. I can't figure out what the hell EA is doing.

i was gonna post here and comment that a few of those bugs mentioned like grenades/doors..... players disappearing and merging with walls.... V2..... etc have been acknowledged by EA as being known to them and have stated they will be fixed.

but then i remembered that these fucking fucked in the motherfucking head retard motherfuckers also categorically stated that sv-pure would be functioning and that all cheats advised for AA would be fixed in SH. so putting any faith in asything these fucking fuckwit motherfucking fucknuts say is pretty useless.

cunts.

Other than the fact that I don't like that you used the "F" word more times in one sentence in just about every gramatical form...I Agree 110 %!

My 2cents worth. Create a dual boot system with 98SE and be done with it. I use 98SE for all my games and it functions flawlessly. I use 2000 Pro for all my non-gaming apps and it is rock solid. I have the best of both worlds IMO.
