Yup he got executed for being involved in a hitler assassination attempt. Probably one of the best tank battle stratigists that ever lived.

actually he commited suicide because he was implemented in the plot to assasinate hitler. i believe he was given the choice to either take his own life or be subjected to the SS murdering his family as well as himself.

Many historians say that if Rommel had been leading the Eastern offensive against Russia, the outcome might have been very different for the Germans. Something to think about.

It probably would have been some of the tactics he used against the brits were just genius to say the least.

The North African campaign hinged on armour and how to supply repair and mobilize them. Rommel was a brilliant strategist but due to problems with supplies such as oil he was steadily pushed back after the Battle of El Alamein (sp). He was one of the gretest strategists of his time but due to doodlehead Hitler wos crap tactics we put in place of Rommel's Germany lost the war which is definately a GOOD thing.

doesn't this belong in the histroy section?
anyway Rommel was basically forced to kill himself because Hitler had some "evidence" that Rommal was involved in the assasination attempt.
(I think one of his friends was one of the conspirators and Rommel was accused of conspiring with him when in reality they discussed something else entirely)
Rommel was probably Germany's best general, and I believe that he never joined the Nazi party.
He came from a family that had many military ancestors.
