Damage model in MOHAA or Spearhead -
02-03-2003, 05:43 AM
Last night I was playing on a map and crept up on a German Sniper, I took my M1-Garand pointed it point-blank at the back of his head and fired. He then turned around a shot and killed me with his pistol...WTF??? Shouldn't any close-range shot with a friggin' M1 to the head kill someone?
Can someone please explain the damage model in MOHAA so I understand what kills and what doesn't -the first time?
Thanks!

If its stock MOHAA only use the MG, SGM, and shotgun.
Only play on realism servers if you want to use ovther guns.

Axis rifle is one-shot kill for headshot, m1 garand isnt.
Yep in any normal situation it would kill, in fact statistically more people die from .22 caliber weapons than anything else in modern crime.
But as for realism, I doubt if half the players on here could actually hold an m1 let alone aim it in real life so sugar-realism has its benefits. biggrin:

For the garand ure better off pumping a couple of rounds into them. For some retarded reason it seems to kill in 1 shot like 1 out of 100. oOo:

Sorry answering the question...I think this is damage model for non-realism mohaa....
Sniper rifle = one shot kill (head and upper torso)
Shotgun = one shot kill at close range (the proffesionals choice. what?)
Axis rifle = one shot kill (head shot)
Grenades/rocket launchers usually kill first time
smg = two shot killer (head shots)
mg = two shot killer (head shots)
m1 = two shot killer (head shots)
pistol = two shot killer (head shots)
If you really want to enjoy the very excellent axis rifle, but are concerned about its shit fire rate do the following....
Aim to hit targets at medium ranges, hit them once (anywhere) now switch instantly to pistol and its now a One shot kill with a pistol anywhere on their body. This is an extremely effective tactic even working at close ranges in V2 so long as you always set up an escape for yourself to give a second or two to switch to pistol.

Actually, strange thing is that I'm a WWII re-enactor (101st 501) and last weekend, I got to fire a real (blanks though -I'm in the UK) M1-Garand, and a Thompson. It was very very cool.
The M1 Garand is loud! And it wrecks your eardrums...one can only imagine the stopping power that it had.
I had real problems with the Thompson jamming and then have to step on the bolt (with the barrel pointed up and safety off!) to clear it. M1 seemed a little less succeptable to dirt and grime.
Sorry, I know its off-topic a bit, but it was good fun. cool:

Wow blitzhund thats so cool biggrin:
I used to fire L-81`s bolt action sniper rifles in the atc years ago, shot in the team, we used to fire at up to 1000 yards. We would regularly get v-bulls which is equivelant to head shots in low winds, but this was using iron sights and lying prone with sling. (yes woman CAN shoot as well as guys)
Id love to have gone to that show Blitzhund!

It was actually a 'simulated' battle between Ally and Axis forces. It is held yearly here in the UK at Longmoor Military Base in their Urban training area. We actually get permission from the MOD for this. It was great, if a bit expensive for the day (about £75).
The weapons that were available from the armorer that was onsite were:
MP45
Mauser K98 (I think but there were multiple calibers)
Thompson
M1-Garand
M1
Sten-gun
and a .50 cal HMG and MG42!!!! I have no idea how much rounds and the weapon would cost for the day, but it was cool to see the 2 man teams carrying them around!
I've got some pics that we took if anyone is interested, I'll try to post them...

If anyone else is interested in living MOHAA for real (well almost -no dead bodies to deal!) please PM me and I'll provide you with some links to some re-enactors group. Lots here in the UK, both German and Ally...The Irish Guards group are particularly cool (nothing like running around in leather armor during WWII!)

I was going to make my own sig pic out of it??? So I dunno...if you do, please attribute it correctly to our group of re-enactors -they are all a bunch of great guys who deserve some recognition for keeping the memory of the 101st alive and well.
I'm going on another battle south of Bristol on Feb 23rd, I'll try to get some more pics then and maybe fire something else (hopefully!)

Usually the Garand kills on a headshot. You were probably too close and hit him somewhere else. Point of aim gets kinda wierd when it's pointblank.
Nifty pics, by the way. That sort of thing is always a blast.
