Default going underground legal? - 02-28-2003, 12:40 PM

I was in a map playing when i saw the head of a team mate cruising around! Although it looks Halarious to see just a head flying around he of course was really pissing people off by his killing spree. I asked him how he does that. He showed me. Very simple. I do not approve of nor have any cheat programs ect... My question is that since it is apparent that any player (at least on that server) could do it, I have not tried on any other, though have seen it done. Is it legal since all players have the ability, though just may not know how.? i have also seen people inside of roofs.I personally prefer not to., just looks really funny. can Someone who really knows give me some insight on this?

Ya.. that's a cheat.. Most people do it because it gives them a sense of eliteness. The feeling they know how to do something others can not do. But they do it at the expense of others. The fact of the matter is that it's a total newbie maneuver. And anyone blatant enough to do it now a days pretty much tells everyone he's using all the latest cheats.. Including (hint) the chameleon skins that allow you to see other people through walls.

Most servers run map fixes for these problems. I will kick people after one warning on my server. I also have kick voting enabled.

The general rule of thumb for league and public play states that most if not all map glitches are cheats. What you are referring to in particular is called "going under a map" and can be done in numerous maps. This is most definitely illegal considering that the makers of the game did not intend for you to stand underground and shoot at unsuspecting victims. Some map glitches are, at least in my eyes, considered OK. For example, the rooftops in So. France are fine. They may not be where you'll look for players or where you'd expect to see them, however they are solid textured areas that you can get to with a little work. I hope this helps.

I don't think its a cheat because as a map maker I have built in glithchs to some experimental maps and when u walk into them and off the map you keep falling untill you die . The only way to alow people to do that is to actuly put a floor for people to walk on under the map.
so it isnt cheating because it was put there purposly by the people at EA!

A Hungry Fatman is absolutely right. Only a few maps allow you to walk underground. The rest you just keep falling into infinity, and on these maps all possible routes to the underground are blocked.

It's a map exploit. Unless the author intentionally put it there for hiding purposes, then it's a cheat.

Big fucking deal cheaters..

Some maps are made differently than others. Alot of Quake3 mappers will create a skybox and build the map inside of it.. That's the ground you hit, the bottom of the skybox.. Others will cap their maps with the skybox instead of building the map completely inside of one. If the map is capped..you will more than likely fall forever if you find a way out of the map..

Going out of the map is cheating.. You do it.. Your a cheater.. And a lamer for being annoying.

And the reason all possible routes to the underground are blocked on these type maps. Is becauss when you do not create a SKYBOX around your map.. And possible routes would show up a leaks.
