FPS drop -
03-12-2003, 02:05 PM
ok, so i recently had some startup-problems with my PC (worked fine after a couple of restarts somehow) and after that, when i joined a AA-MP game, my FPS would drop from 50 to around 5/6, with tons of lag. I've tried lowest display settings, removing all mods etc. but still nothing....
can anyone help?
Specs:
AMD Duron 1.30 ghz
512 MB RAM
Win XP pro
Geforce 2 MX

Sounds like a CPU or Memory problem.

I used to have a similar configuration (Athlon 1.2 / GeForce 2 MX 32 MB). Very bad FPS. Especially in multiplayer online. This card is simply not very good. FPS wasn't as bad as yours though.
I had like 10-15 FPS on crossroads with a few opponents, firing (1024*768, medium detail). That is not enough.
If your system seems to runs fine except for games/MoHAA, maybe you could try to uninstall/reinstall the latest nVidia drivers, and I should disable anti-aliasing and level 1 anisotropy (=off). These two are real performance killers, especially with MX cards.
You can turn these things off with, for example, [url=http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/:274ed]RivaTuner[/url:274ed]
Are you sure not too many programs run in the background? Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to see what's running. You can prevent programs from being started while starting Windows by running msconfig in Start->Run...

it could be that your grafics card GeForce 2 is not capable of handling the game. I have similar computer specs as you and for me to MOH:AA & SH I have to ctrl + alt+ delete and close every program that is runing besides EXPLORE and tsmaneger. The real problem fix thou if you don't want to do that every time you want to play is to get a new GeForce 3 of hire. Or ATI equevilent

thanks for the replies. I'm running cable, and my ping on most servers was around 20, so no problems there. As i said, it worked fine up until a few days ago. Ill try out that RivaTuner thing. Or wait for my next money shipment i guess.......

Yeah man, that's your best bet. Unless you plan on a vid card upgrade.
