Alright, this may or may not work, so bear with me, and tell me what your situation is. I know this *is* my 1st post, but I have been lurking these boards for quite awhile now, so I'm not some dumb n00b.

Alright....There a few reasons right off the bat why you may be having probs...

-You have 256mb or less of RAM (be it DDR or SD), therefore, because the texture compression is not included, your RAM is using it's total physical memory as an immediate texture catch.

-Your video card sucks/drivers are out of date ---> go to nvidia.com

Most peoples problem lies in the memory. If you do have 256 or 512+, do this now...

LAG FIX
-------

WinXP - Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Performance Settings > Virtual Memory "change" >

Initial Size: 2x whatever amount of RAM you have
Max. Size: Same as above

Win2k - Much easier, right click on My Computer > Properties, and go from there.
Same with Win9x. Please tell me if this helped/didn't work/i'm an idiot, and so on.

Worked for me. No lag even at the smoke, not one bit

Is this procedure similar to making a "swap file" for windows??

so the less ram one has, the more lag one gets ? Hhhhhmmm I have heard that people with a lot of ram still get problems. I think the main reason lies in CPU and video. As for drivers, well that may also be another problem, but not so much that it will make your fps drop to 0 :/

Thanks Tripper for the sig !

CaptainRon: This will help if you have either, just keep in mind that it may not work as well if you have 256mb of RAM

TheBlazer: Read the whole post, Win9x (win95,98,98se) is the same procedure as 2k.

Guys, tell me if this is working for you. I've noticed that the people that usually have problems are those running WinXP, and that is because the OS has a tendency not to change the virtual memory when you insert new RAM.

what does virtual memory do now ? Does it come with ram ? is it kinda like a hd, where stuff gets stored in it, like code ( 101010101010101 ) and such ?

Mine is set on 512 MB of virtual memory. FPS of 60-70 max ingame. Drops to 15 in battles.

I got P4 1.3, 128 RDRAM, GeForce 2 GTS 32 DDR.

Tyler: It basically uses your HD as extra RAM for normal application use (such as pagefiling), leaving the physical memory (the fast stuff) to stream.

Echo: It is because you have 128mb ram, nothing you can do but wait for texture compression in the full game, where your little ram will be sufficient enough.

dudes there is something else you can do that will most likely help with lag...

start > run > msconfig

you can probably set it not to parse autoexec.bat or config.sys or startup items. depending on what you need for your mouse, etc. in general, the more you remove, the more speed you get. try with none and see how you like it.

for example, there is a program qttask.exe running in the background of many computers which just sits there parsing all incoming internet data to see if it's quicktime media. this saves a small amount of time loading quicktime when needed (whoopee!) but it hogs resources and slows down all internet traffic. eliminate it and notice your improved ping.
