Default color me frustrated - 03-26-2003, 10:54 PM

need help from all who are willing. actually tips on ways to make allied assault and spearhead run more smoothly. i have a p4 with 512 mb ram and an up to date video card with 128 mb ram but yet i lag when playing both games. i have adjusted video and sound settings on both games. my internet connection is wireless dsl. i have read from others that fire walls(i think thats what they are called) can be an issue if they are enabled. is this true? and if so how does one disable them? as you can tell i'm pretty green when it comes to the puter but i love to play medal of honor so any help or tips would be greatly apprieciated.

hmm..where to start. first off..make sure your going into server where your ping is low. the smaller the ping..the better the gameplay will be for you.

do you have a ton of programs running in the background when you play the game?

wireless dsl....what are the advertised speeds up and down?

firewall...should not affect the actual gameplay. it would effect the actual conencting to servers.

what operating system do you use. winxp? win me? 98?

so far your specs that you have listed are prolly better than half of us who play this game.

1st off thank you for the prompt reply, i'll try to answer your questions as best i can.
when i do join a game the highest ping rate i will try (as far as the server is concerned) is 140 to 150. any higher and i wont join that server.
i have no back ground programs running, only the game.
sadly i have no idea...i will check on that and get back to you.
so are you saying that if the fire wall does affect your connection to a server that will cause lag? if so to be safe should i just disable fire walls?
my operating system is winxp.

i am having my internet company come out and take a look at where they put my dish. i feel it is too low and a large tree in my back yard could be affecting my signal. at this point and time i am just trying to eliminate all negative possiblities.
it frustrate me cause i love this game, even when i am getting my butt kicked(which is quite often) i am still having a blast. it's kinda like golf, i just need one good round and i always come back for more. eatthis:

140 - 150 ping is laggy, so far as I'm concerned. At that rate you will suffer frame lags and jerks.

Try bringing up your console and typing fps 1 - tell us what your FPS is at most of the time. If it's yellow or red then it's a hardwear issue (compounded by 140 ping), if it's white mostly then it's your connection.

There's a few that are fabled to recude lag and increase framerates, but with your system I doubt any would make a difference to FPS.

Once we've worked out if it's FPS or just the ping (or both) then it'll be easier to advise.

Do you have anit-aliasing enabled? This can cause a performance drop in fps.

Is it a newer Nvidia card? The newer ones lock the refresh rate at 60Hz. After I unlocked this and increased the refresh rate I noticed better performance. Not sure if it increased fps though because I increased it before turning on the fps meter.

Just my .02 cents - Scorpio

ok thanks too all who have been trying to help my dumb ass...here is more info for you. my internet company tested my signal (around 1:00pm this afternoon) and i was getting 435 kbps download and 459 kbps upload. i'm assuming this is good. i tryed playing a bit later this afternoon and it was hit and miss. my fps was anywhere from a consistant 65 down to around 30. needless to say when it hit 30 it was unplayable. scorpio where to i go to check to see if it is enabled or not? and yes my video card is a new one, maybe a month to two months old. any more suggestions from all would be greatly apprieciated.

30 is as fast as it needs to be. Anthing over 25 and the brain is fooled into believing motion, anything over 30 and it's as smooth as is needed. The only reason you'd want FPS to exceed 90 is because when you have a busy situation you know it won't srop too far.

If it's only 30fps on an empty server however there's something wrong with yoru setup. It must have something to do with your card and refresh rates, sadly this is where my knowledge ends oOo:

One thing that would definitely help is not connecting to servers with a ping of 140+. if this is as good as you can manage then it must be your location.

For a truly smooth game you need less than 100 ping, preferably as close to 20-30 as you can manage. I understand this can be hard in the States and similarly lareg countries however.

try this, under start, go to programs, and locate where your medal of honor game is located. then once it's found, click on "auto configure" this will make your game play as best as it can be with what's in your tower...hope it helped...

I tried using different settings in the advanced options room. It was weird, i sometimes got better FPS numbers when alot of the options were maxed out compared to the low, poor-quality options.

Give it a try...might work
