ENJOY BF1942: Deset Combat NOW!...while it's still free. -

I heard this rumor awhile ago, and then it was confirmed that EA was interested in DC. Seems now its a full on go.
[quote:f485d]The highlights include Medal of Honor: Desert Heat for the PC and Xbox, a follow-up to the award-winning first-person shooter series that will be set in the Middle East; Command & Conquer: Generals - Sandstorm, an expansion pack to the popular real-time strategy game that will continue the conflict between the USA, China, and the GLA terrorist faction; Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat, an expansion pack based on a popular user-created mod for the hit multiplayer shooter; and Powermonger 2: Thirst for War, a sequel to famed game designer Peter Molyneux's 1990 strategy game that will be set in the Middle East.[/quote:f485d]

Not surprised if the DC thing is real, damn monopolizing sons of a bitch. Hopefully it will stay free, for the online community, though I am never installing that game agian.

I wouldn't be suprised either, since I am SURE I remember a post on DC.Com where they were talking about EA being interested in DC and the mod. I mean fuck, if they want to profit off this thing, who are we to say "NAY". But I do agree that community made-and-maintained mods are some of the best out there, since their attention to keep it running, and cheat free is more than a companies whos profits are steady even if a game sucks.

Definately, if it is released, I bet it will be deemed on the box or somehwere as a "whole new game" and be $50, and there will only be 1 patch released, if any, and that would be it, they'll look for another mod to buy. The DC team probably won't even get any credit, and very little revenue.

Guys, we have been approached by a few publishers, but nothing has been finalized. We aim to keep it like CS in that you will be able to download it for free if you have BF1942.

Dunno SW, that article makes it seem PRETTY CLEAR that EA wants this mod under their umbrella. And why not. Its shaping up to be a PRETTY popular modification for BF1942, and why mods are exactly what games need to extend the longevity of a product, which in turn means more revenue for the publisher. Honestly - without CS, I cant imagine HL would have the kind of impact it has now....that mod has singlehandedly made Online Gaming the force it is today.
I can EASILY see a BF:1942 bundle with DESERT COMBAT. You AUTOMATICALLY get two games in one.

Well Ed, I know for a fact that the article is false. I know we haven't signed any agreements with EA. Heck, Frank's still waiting on my contributor agreement form. biggrin:

I kinda got the impression that there was an air of falsehood to the article. The article really painted EA in some "warmongering" light, glorifying war. And that slogan.."Real war. Real games". I mean - its kinda cool in a violent sick kind of way.
That being said, good job on even getting to be the target of a Gamespot April Fools Joke.

And geesh, it's still in Alpha, CS was far ahead by the time of a retail release.

An article on GAMESPOT makes it seem like Desert Combat (a gulf war mod for BF1942), is going to be packaged up and sold just like Counter Strike was for Half Life.
SW however counters that, saying the article is false.

It's definately an April Fools joke. Take a look at some of the names of the other "games":
Powermonger 2: Thirst for War (PC) biggrin:
Friendly Fire: The Cavalry (PS2) biggrin:
The Human Shield (Xbox) biggrin:
Oil Tycoon (PC) biggrin:

Sad thing is, I can see EA totally producing games with these titles.
