Default RADIOHEAD: HAIL TO THE THIEF - 04-02-2003, 06:35 PM

Disclaimer: It is rumoured that the "leaked" copy of this cd is not the actual final mastered verison of the CD, but even if it isn't most bands would KILL to be this good.

Anywho -

This is RADIOHEAD's 6th album, and much like each album before it, it has a different sound that what came before it. I know some people were a little frustrated with the last "experimental"ness of RADIOHEADS last album's (Kid A and Amnesiac), but I thought there were good for what it was...and alot better than a bunch of shit that was put out when they were released (2000, and a few months later in 2001). That being said, HAIL TO THE THIEF seems to return to more "familiar" roots of RADIOHEAD, not alot (or really any except on the long instrumental tracks), but the sound is really different. It sounds more folksy in more than a few songs, but not blue grass enough to get you into Grateful Dead or Indigo Girls.

As the title suggest (or I think it suggest...) this is an album that is expressely focused at the world climate. I know most rock song by "good" rock bands dont make sense (I'm still trying to figure out what alot of Smashing Pumpkins song mean), but if you go into this recognizing that they are make social comments then alot of what is said might show through.

"it's the devil's way now
there is no way out
you can scream and you can shout
it is too late now
because you're not there
payin' attention
payin' attention
payin' attention
payin' attention " - 2+2=5

Now, the devil could easily be Bush, or America, and Americans "reactionary-political-attitudes" could be the "screaming and shouting" going on...but of course..its too late since weve had our heads up our asses for too long already.

There are some great songs on this album, and if this ISNT the mastered version (and I'm sure it isnt), then I cant wait till the full version comes out and want to hear what it sounds like.

I'll have to try them out. I remember someone trying to tell me to go to a concert where the group sound like a mix between Radiohead and....FOO FIGHTERS? Didn't get to go though.

And yea I'll be buying this album in the stores. I respect the group that much, and the Liner "notes" (which if Im not mistaken since OK COMPUTER havent included much of ANYTHING about the band or songs or guitar tabs...etc), are ALWAYS awesome.

Yea it is. The really came with the drums, and guitars esepcially for this one. 2+2=5, Punch-Up At A Wedding, and Mxyomatosis are my favorite songs on this one...though they all are good. There,There is a good one and it'll be the first single. I wouldn't have picked that one, but I can see why they did.

Yeah, older Gomez stuff sounds like Pearl Jam.....They have two lead singers, one sounds exactly like Eddie Vedder, the other sounds like the guy from Radiohead.....(Gomez = British)

Their newer stuff sounds alot like a Radiohead, New Order fusion....With heavy use of electronica.....

Nice, I am a big fan of Radiohead. Amnesiac and Kid A are great after you get used to them. I like all of there stuff, but the "bends" and "OK computer" are still the best..

Hey can someone PM me and tell me where they found this new album? I got a couple of Live shows I will be willing to share for the info.

Oh ya, Gomez is pretty good too, my buddy burned me one of the thier albums and its really good, I think its called "Bring it"?
