Default Making a scooter that RIPS! - 05-31-2003, 06:33 PM

Allright, Im gonna make a scooter. That goes fast. I dont have to use the scooter in the pic, my neighbor has some welding equipment, so I can start from scratch if need be.

Im engine illiterate. How do I make the turny thingie on my engine turn my wheel? Do I need a tranny in one of these things? Or what? What kinda gears and/or sprockets do I need? Should I somehow use a chain to make the drive system (old bike chain?) Thanks!

The scooter and the engine together, at last!

That's gonna be a bitch dealing with those wheels. I think you'll have to get out the welding equipment and start from scratch, cause that scooter frame won't be able to carry the weight of that motor, without being dangerous.

Hes gonna need more that that
At least:
Increase the Width of the platform of where you put your feet.
Buy or Machine heavier and harder axles
Somehow make it so the motor actually drives the wheel
somehow balance front and rear
new braking system.
Make it so you can control the speed of the motor

I'm assuming that motor is electric start and not pull start?

NEIN, it's pull start - j00 can see teh pull handle

you'll never get that motor on that little scoot frame, where are you going to put your feet?
scrap the skinny ass scooter and start from absolute scratch

get yourself some metal tubing, angle iron, super strength axels (not to mention super strength bearings) and an idea how to put it together!

ask your dad or maybe even somebody who has more of an idea than you do....

there are some diehard peeps over here http://www.hardforums.com
you need a payed for e-mail account to register, they don't spam you so its ok
find a thread there and post your unthoughtout idea, there will be many flames and many many great ideas.... it'll be worth your while

Theres no way that will ever work dude.

How will you control throttle and brake?

How big is the engine anyway? Looks pretty small. If your putting a 150lb guy and trying to get a shitty little engine to push you around, think again.

Your biggest problem is with drive from the engine to the wheels. You'll never get it to work. You need a proper adapter to come out of the engine, then attach a sproket with a chain, to then attach to the the rear wheels. If you expect to weld something to the motor, forget it. It won't hold up, espically with no welding experience. To get a nice weld isn't that easy. Trust me. And what type of metals are you using and what type of welder? There are some welders that cannot weld certain materials. If your neighbour has an arc welder and your not using aluminum, then your screwed.

Yeah, i see it now. If he does manage to get the fram to work he's gonna have a hell of time controlling engine choke.

I can see now you took that engine off a weed wacker. I doubt that will push you around. You'll just blow the engine.

Engine sucks anyway. Goped.com only has like 20-40cc engines, and the wacker is probably 25+

Ill ask some more questions around here and get some materials.

Why not simply put the motor back on the weed-wacker, place a stroller wheel on the spinning
shaft, hinge that to the scoots footrest...and hey presto!...the bitchenest Outrigger Tri-Scoot on th' block!! eek:

...it has more chance of working than your current plan...

Anyhow... lets get some posative ideas on how to get the power to the wheels! And frame design, etc.
