Default Wallhacks, discouraged, should I quit MOH? - 07-16-2003, 08:20 AM

Been playing MOH for a while, love it. I have always wondered how common ceating is, e.g. wallhacks. I wonder because I don't cheat.

Out of curiosity, I run a wallhack on a few public servers. When you run one, it becomes immediately and completely obvious that MANY people are running them. Knowing this, there is really no fun in the game at all.

To the question, is there any way to recognize a server where the admins are serious about this?

Call me naive but I had no idea it was so rampant. Frankly, I don't see the point in playing the way things are; playing with the cheat is no fun, and getting owned by hackers is no great fun either. Any advice is welcome.

PS Server hosts cheat as much as the guests...

I had the same fear and done the same thing as you.

My love for mohaa was too great though and i deleted and reinstalled my mohaa and continued playing.

Thing is since you now know how they cheat they are still easy to spot. Also once you improve these people will be less and less of an annoyance as you find they are really easy to beat and usually camp in a corner of the map until they are last man.

Don't despair, here in Europe a new scanner is nearly ready and it will eliminate the cheats once and for all.

Check out allaboutnothing.net's Spearhead server. Fun place to play with no cheaters and no bullshit to put up with.

It's the only place I play.

If you wanna get owned, check out Team Aftermath too.

you can give our server a go...we try and monitor during days and evenings... -*{OcP}*- Lock -n- Load...browse the name on your server list... we remove most obvious cheaters although we will never catch them all..we are family oriented...so please check the language at the door...

i love it because people run wallhacks, and they are like OMG I WAS ABOUT TO TURN THE CORNER AND HE STOPPED TO WAIT FOR ME. this infact happened today, and i have one thing to say. GO FUCK URSELF, there are players out there that focus on sound, they can hear u coming from miles away and set up a shot easily. dont accuse people of cheating unless u have proof

Yo Anti...why so defensive...if somone accuses me of cheating...it is a compliment....I like you use sound to my best advantage...I think this guy was more curious and has decided that there are a lot of people out there hacking with cheats and scripts...just the same realization that alot of us have made already...I personally do not mind playing against them as I believe it only helps to improve my own skill...you want some riddilin to calm down or are you ok now?...j/k man...you are a great player from what I have heard and hope you stop by sometime at the server posted above for a little action...we are nuttin special..stock server running mostly objective...every once in a while we swap over to TDM for match prep...but would be nice to play against you...although we may get schooled...that will only again make us better...l8ta fire2:

I never accused a specific person of cheating here, I just said it was rampant. I take it from your comments (and associated profanity) that you think it is uncommon. We disagree then, but don't patronize me. I know how to play and how people (like me) depend very heavily on sound clues.

But I would not have registered for the forum specifically to ask this advice, if I wasn't convinced. It is easy, look at someone through a wall, then just jump up and down and dance. They'll shout "HACK" quicker than anything..and they're right...but how did they know? The first response to my query says a wallhack detect is on the way...why do we need that if they are not a problem?

It is unambiguous...wallhacks are a problem on many of those servers. Deny it all you want, but I'll bet I am on solid ground.

" ur basically accusing alto of people right there "

Indeed, that is the point of my original post...that cheating is more common than I previously thought, and that I am disturbed by it. But I am not one of those that rant on and make excuses during play. I just conducted an experiment, then turned the hack off and came to this forum for advice on finding cleaner games.

The message I took home from the other replies is that wallhacks are indeed common and that right now the only way to deal with it is to be choosy r.e. the server you play on. If you agree with that conclusion, then we have nothing to argue about. If you think I'm imagining the whole, then we'll just have to disagree.

Ax.

Boo hoo. cry:

Anti, you're not above the rules here, regardless of whatever inflated persona you think you possess. Keep your sigs within the rules.

From what I've seen most of the hackers tend to stick to the same servers, i.e. ones that aren't manned with admins to enforce a clean game. I think our server is up to 1275 people being banned due to varoius reasons. That might be a record. lol But check us out 216.40.216.239:12203. Phoenixforce.

Anti-Hero is right though.

Using a wallhack can give away a lot of potential cheaters, some blatent, but it doesn't mean that they're all cheating.

Since I upgraded my old SB PCI 16 sound card to a SBLive! 5.1 (whilst using headphones) I've found a massive difference in audio location.

You can pin-point where someone is by their sounds very, very easilly and from a longer distance.

Before, with the old card, footsteps at about 100 yards or more away would be very indistinct and I could only vaguely locate the source. Now, I can locate the exact source of the sounds at any distance, and at any angle (except height, headphones don't account for that without EAX support, sadly, but experience makes up for that).

I've played with a skinhack and without and since I upgraded my sound, mouse, CPU, memory, graphics card and monitor I find there's very little advantage to using one for me, now (not that I've ever used one to gain advantage, more to piss of other cheaters).

The only true benefit using a skinhack gives me is in knowing where the silent enemy is and on most publics there are very few of them.

I find it funny when someone blunders around a corner making loads of noise (especially those that spam taunts) and accuse me of hacking when I kill them every time they emerge, mostly within a split second of them appearing.

The only way to be sure someone is using a hack on you is to turn yours on and get them into a one-on-one situation where there's a corner between you and them.

If they are looking right at you before you emerge this does not mean they are cheating, necessarily. Be patient and use walk. Then move as if to emerge into their line-of-sight but pull away just before you come into view.

If they shoot at you then you can be much more sure you have a hacker. Even then I'd suggest trying this two times to see if they fall for it again.

Some people just have great reactions and ears, along with a great system and audio set-up. Some (myself included) just guess, and get it right more often than not - Others have great timing.

You do not know how easy it is until you try it yourself. So, unless you have a fast PC, a big monitor, a great GFX card, a 5.1 or better sound card and so on, you cannot truly know how easy it is for some players who genuinely don't cheat.

Another thing:

I don't really agree with the saying "If someone accuses you of cheating then it's a compliment". Perhaps... But it's also insulting to pull off an amazing shot or sequence and to have them say you only did it because you cheated.

It's so much nicer, and easier, to just say "Great Shot!" and continue playing.

There's only one thing worse than cheating in games and that's the paranoia that accompanies it.
